Open letter - 09:16 03 Dec 07The constitution is soon be posted at www.nars.org.uk/forum/ and will incorporates all feedback received during the consultation process. Many thanks to everyone who offered advice and help with this process so far.
What we now have to do, is agree to associate as members and ratify the constitution. It can't say anything itself about how this is done as it has no force until it's adopted, so this is the timetable we propose -
(a) if you wish to associate in this manner and ratify the constitution, post in the above forum and say so or e-mail info@nars.org.uk
(b) to kick the whole thing off, we will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting. The agenda will cover all applicable business defined in the constitution for an AGM, and also such other business as notified to us more than 14 days in advance: it's an Extraordinary Meeting so that it can make changes to the constitution if necessary.
(c) there will be Board Elections at the inaugural meeting. These are likely to go much more smoothly if everyone knows who everyone is, so if you're interested in standing for a Board post, please login to the forum beforehand and post something about yourself, your skating background, and what you'd like to do.
If you have any other agenda items to add then please post or e-mail.
Regards Simon Green

Re:Open letter - 12:03 03 Dec 07Wow, this is finally getting underway! I assume this is the same thing that Lee from SMUK has been working towards with the BRSF or is this yet another splinter group? I just like to be clear
I really really want to come to this meeting and I have a lot to say as well as really liking to help and be involved however the 23rd is just way too close to Christmas and family do's are already in my calendar for that day
As soon as I have been approved I'll be checking on the NARS forum and posting where possible.
Thank you Simon and all overs for helping make this a reality

Re:Open letter - 13:35 03 Dec 07Yes we hope this will be part of the BRSF. It needs to be a club before it can join the BRSF. But we have been talking to the Charman and other members of the BRSF and so we hope this should not be a problem.
You login works and please please use it
If you can not make the meeting the want one of the 4 bourd postions please post on the NARS forum and we will do what we can.
This is the skaters club and so we have to do all we can to involve every one.

Re:Open letter - 22:01 03 Dec 07I've signed up and am looking forward to what you have to offer but a noob/gumbie like me knows nothing about what your trying to do. Any chance you can explain what is the goal?
Oh BTW, I signed up mainly because of your rules post, I dont post anything on SR because of the flames, thats why you'll find me here. Here they seem to accept a stupid gumbie like me, god only knows why When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Re:Open letter - 23:04 03 Dec 07Any chance you can explain what is the goal? The constitution (while a bit long) does cover it quite well. Let me see if I can give a couple of bullet points...
- NARS is aiming to be a governing body to cover recreation skating in the UK.
Why do we need this? - Other roller sports and skating disciplines have governing bodies however rec skaters currently have no representation. - Rec skaters have unique problems, they skate in public areas and on the streets as well as having a different subset of people (we aren't all kids) - The government, the Lottery as well as councils are willing to give clubs such as Cskate and events such as the Goodwood Roller Marathon money however they are much more likely to do so if the sport has an overseeing governing body to show that there are basic rules in place. - Groups could share expertise easily allowing them to share marketing and publicity. Re:Open letter - 09:38 04 Dec 07It's a good question and like a lot of things there is certainly cross over.
Goodwood has always classed itself as more of a rec skating event than speed skating and tries to be inclusive as possible, we have hockey skaters, artistic skaters as well as the longboarders. It was one of the reasons we called ourselves Goodwood Roller Marathon instead of Goodwood Inline Marathon.
Unfortunately, due to the wide variety of people we have, by following the speed skating rules (FISS) would limit us at Goodwood and alienate people that aren't hard core speed skaters. This is not to say that FISS is bad at all, they do a fantastic job and are perfect for an event such as LIM, we have even used a number of their rules & suggestions for Goodwood and as you know the three UK skate marathons try and help each other out Is it the weekend yet?? - Twitter Status

Nice overview, I don't know a lot about this either, I'll have to read the constitution thingy properly... I dont even know what constitution means yet.. *about to go off to google Define:*.. but those aims sound like it can only be a very good thing.
