Bauer Turbos - or not! - 10:44 05 Apr 06 So I eventually venture into the loft and retreive my slightly ageing (a bit like me then) Bauer Turbos. Slip them on and go for a skate around the kitchen and dining room. Only to discover:
1) A bit rusty need to practice, should get to one of the meets.
2) The boots have perished. The heel tab has snapped off as has one of the sets of eye holes on the ankle part.

Boo hoo...

So the questions are:
1) What is a good pair of skates to own (not inline, sorry just didn't get on with them)
2) Can I just get new boots on the old trucks?
3) If the boots are this bad will the trucks and wheels still be ok? (they don't look perished)
4) Where sells the best skates?

Is Surrey Skateboard still open? That's where I bought them, do you think I should go back and tell them I want a refund as the skates fell apart after 4 years use and 7 years in the loft?!!!

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 11:08 05 Apr 06 OOh bad luck Stumo - and lots of questions too !!

To be honest you might do better to go somewhere like Club Blue Room and try some on and then look on-line to see if there are any special offers.

Good luck with the hunting

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 12:18 05 Apr 06 1) What is a good pair of skates to own (not inline, sorry just didn't get on with them)Sorry, you will have to ask a quaddie I'm afraid and they are a dying breed

2) Can I just get new boots on the old trucks?

Any time I have seen just the boots for sale the price hasn't been far off buying whole new skates so I'd treat yourself to a new set. You can break down the good bits of your existing skates for spares.

4) Where sells the best skates?best in what way, cheap, best range, allows you to try them on etc. Your best bet is to go through the Skate Shops websites in Web Links. You can instantly discount any that just do inlines but there are some quad shops there too, some also have physical shops and some just online. You will usually find skates cheaper online and while they all have good returns policy (they have to by law) it's still not the same as trying them on in a shop so use and abuse the shops and then go and buy online

Is Surrey Skateboard still open?I think so although I'm not sure how much roller stuff they do as opposed to boards any more.
Hmmmmm, new LCD screen for £150 or new PC (inc LCD) for £250, hardware is so cheap! - Twitter Status

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 12:27 05 Apr 06 Wow, thanks for the prompt replies.

I was thinking that new boots would be about the same price as a whole new skate set. Am also used to the "try it offline, buy it online" routine, just wondered who offered a range to try on in/near Guildford?

Also what sort of price is going to get me a good pair? I expect to pay aroun £10 to £20, is that enough?
Nah, add a Zero! £100 to £200.

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 12:43 05 Apr 06 Best bet - check on serp road. If you can get past the general banter, there are a few quaddies there who will be able to help. ! Skate Monkey !

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 12:48 05 Apr 06 There are very few shops locally any more, most have gone to online only. One that jumps out is up on London, Skate Attack.

As for price, you get what you pay for

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 13:05 05 Apr 06 Agree, that you get what you pay for, but...

What is the ball park for a good set? Something that can deliver speed and agility but robust enough for the tough stuff?

What is the maximum? And I am not talking Gold plated wheels or something silly, just a good set that'll last like the Bauers did. I don't want a truck snapping or a binding coming loose whilst I am flat out!

Is £200 too little? Or an average price? What would get me all of the above, without being riduiculous!?

Re:Bauer Turbos - or not! - 13:24 05 Apr 06 Just get anohter set of turbos. I have no idea what they cost - the last few sets of skates I've bought have averaged somewhere over the 200 mark if that helps.

Bauer Turbos appear to retail for 140.
