I have just noticed some new skates on the Salomon Inline website, I am sure they weren't there before!
The Salomon Smartskate!
Clasically Hypno were famous for their trainers that came with a skate attachment and now all the kids have Heelys (trainers with one big wheel in the heal) so it looks like Salomon have tried to jump on the band wagon of a single boot that you can wear every day and attach skates to when you need.
The classic problem with the Hypno's were that they only attached to the boot in about four places and while the trainers that came with them had a high cuff they were no where near the regitity of a cuff on a regular skate. This seems to be better on the Smartskate's, not only do the skate frames attach by totally wrapping around the trainer but the cuff is part of the frame too and so goes all the way up the leg. The dissadvantage of this is that they are more to carry when your not skating. The Hypno's frame was just four wheels in a frame but the this frame would be almost the size of carrying a pair of skates just a bit lighter!
I very much doubt the quality of the skates would be much to write home about but as a quick skate for nipping around town on while still being able to go into shops it seems quite fun. Still not sure if I would buy these or some Hypno's though, would depend on the price!
