Re:New skates... unsure - 08:47 25 Jul 06
If you're going to get new skates, and you have access to a reasonable range, try on a few pairs from different manufacturers. Whilst Salomon are a popular choice, they may not be suited to your feet.
Mitchell, what size foot are you, and how old are you? If you're desperate for Salomon skates, you could always buy one that's a size bigger, and put insoles in (I wouldn't recommend getting too big a size though).
Personally, I like the Twister skates (although have FSKs and Sebas). I don't think there is anything wrong with the current frame. It's true a lot of people have switched frame (including myself), but that's for their own skating reasons - ones that someone who is new to skating / just starting out need not worry about.
Salomon skates tend to be wider fitting (with the 3V a bit wider than S-labs), K2 tend to be slimmer fitting.
With regards to Soul Slides, I've heard that they're quite comfortable, but because of the quite soft boot design, is not as responsive as other skates. Therefore, doing things like slalom or slides, can be a bit tricky.
I've also heard a few gripes about the support in the ankle area, and how the straps / ratchets aren't that good. The cuff bolts also can be a bit of a pain once they start loosening - prob not the most robust skate.
