Rollerblade Coyote Offroad Skates - 13:15 07 Aug 07 Hey these look fun.

Pneumatic tyres I believe. Pity I don't take a size 10.

Re:Rollerblade Coyote Offroad Skates - 15:48 07 Aug 07 I've recently acquired a pair of the Powerslide Nordic Blading frames, which come with 6" pneumatic tyres and fit a conventional inline boot. A brief roll up and down Eelmoor showed that their extra length means skating cross-overs is pretty tricky! However, the missing part of the equation is a pair of Nordic ski poles that have just arrived today from Germany - so I expect used in combination should provide a pretty effective workout. Don't plan on doing too many downhills yet either as yet to work out a good braking technique - I used to downhill ski race as a student and so don't posses the inbuilt beginners fear of speed, so this usually does result in spectacular and often painful experiments in control and stopping. The canal towpath passes the end of my street and hopefully provides a nice 5-mile route to work.

Re:Rollerblade Coyote Offroad Skates - 23:13 17 Aug 07 Having given my Nordic skates a try a few times, they're quite good fun. For a start you can use them in the wet and they do work pretty well on hard-pack paths and short grass. You need to use them with cross-country ski poles to help with extra drive - but it gives a really good workout - skate, skate, push. Downhill is more interesting as there's no brakes and the frames are too long for a tee-stop - you need to find a soft verge to run into or a tree to grab hold of! Stick a rifle on my back and I could be Ole Einar Bjoerndahlen!
