rusty bearings - wahh! - 16:36 22 Dec 07 Grrr...
put my skates on earlier... tried to start rolling and they just locked up!! lucky I was going slow!

But yeah, on inspection the nice bones redz I only put in last month have gotten rusty

I'm guessing its cos of the salty roads at this time of year...

But anyways - is it worth trying to salvage them with citrus degreaser??

Re:rusty bearings - wahh! - 21:01 22 Dec 07 OH dear,
Yea the salt will accelerate the rusting but it goes in with the water which will do the same in time.
They might be salvageable depending on how deep the rust goes, you've got nothing to lose by trying.
But, it sounds like more than one wheel has locked up which suggests to me that it's more than just surface rust, give it a try.

If they are past it, remember to keep what you can, shields and spring clips are always handy.

On a good note, you know what to ask santa for now.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Re:rusty bearings - wahh! - 00:40 23 Dec 07 IMHO the best thing to do with bearings that have already gone rusty is to skate on them as soon as possible before the rust goes too deep. They'll never be 100% but they should free themselves up and be usable enough.

I hate that skating is such a dry weather sport
The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.
