Re:baseball shins - 00:08 18 Feb 10 I'm no expert or instructor but here are two things I would check...

1) Check the cuffs aren't too tight. This can be entirely personal taste as some like very loose cuffs while others like tight. The thing I have heard a few times is that you want to be able to get two fingers down the front of the cuff when your skate is on.

2) Air chair! Bend the knees, stick your bottom out and generally sit in the "air chair". This should help your general skating position too. As far as I know you really can't bend your knees too much

Re:baseball shins - 08:00 18 Feb 10 I'm fairly sure you CAN bend your knees too much, but no one ever really gets that far down.

The other thing I would add to Dan's useful notes is to try and make sure that you're sitting back in your skates. I think that toe-pushing can cause undue pressure on your shins - a good skating stride should push through the heel. Try to sit back in your skates so that you can wiggle your toes all the time (but not so far back that you fall over backwards).

If you want a drill to practise this, on each push try and make the rearmost wheel be the last to leave the ground.

Re:baseball shins - 11:53 19 Feb 10 All good advice guys. Another tip is to imagine you are pushing through your ankles, or another way to think of it as the third wheel of your inline skate (if you are using inline skates of course)

Good luck with the skating and we hope these tips have been useful.
