which skates best and sizing - 16:24 08 May 10 Hi I have a 14 year old daughter who works at Tomlinscote Skating sessions and is looking to upgrade her exiting skates but we are unsure which size or tye to go for and wondered if anyone could point us in right direction.

Re:which skates best and sizing - 21:10 08 May 10 i think that the best size is the one that fits, i find that there is little correlation with shoe sizes. I suggest you both go to Club Blue Room up at Marble Arch in London, try a few on and see which she prefers. different brands have different fits.

if she wants to do some tricks then smaller wheels are generally the direction you'll go in.

however it depends on what tricks... if its 'aggressive skating' then the wheels are tiny! slalom (Video) skates are more 'normal' and would be ok to get from a to b.

there are more experienced people around who'll leave more advice im sure

good luck

Re:which skates best and sizing - 14:10 09 May 10 Welcome to the site Angela

Citizenlost's advice is fairly good. The best thing your daughter can do is try the skates on. I had set my heart on a pair that looked good online, had good reviews etc, but when I tried them on they were not right for me and I ended up getting something different.

Club blue room are good to go and try them on, but you might get a better price online once she knows what she wants so its worth doing your research before you go.

The best skates for her are the ones that she feels most comfortable in- wheels etc can always be adapted at a later date so she can do more things.

Re:which skates best and sizing - 10:37 10 May 10 Hi angelamurphy.

A few questions to avoid confusion. I for one did not even know Tomlinscote did skating sessions.

1. The only online info I found on Tomlinscote skating sessions shows a picture of children skating in Quads but both sessions show an age limit of twelve. So are we talking of Quad Skates, or Inline Skates?

2. When you say "to learn tricks", what precisely do you mean? Are you referring to more advanced techniques (backwards, turns, crossovers) for manoeuvring, dancing moves, aggressive tricks (pipes and ramps), or maybe slalom?

The info supplied so far on "Fit and Comfort" is very relevant for Quads or Inlines, but if we are talking Quads, then I'm not sure that Club Blue Room would have much of a varied stock of styles and manufacturers. Certainly when trying skates then her shoe size would be the starting point, but don't be surprised if you need to go up or down a size.
