Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 00:05 10 Jan 10 I've just read a good article on tips for avoiding falling while inline skating.

We all know that you shouldn't and that we should have your weight forward but I like the idea of training yourself to put your hands on your knees when you start to fall instead of windmilling.

Re:Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 10:14 10 Jan 10 Having fallen in the ice yesterday (and knackered my knee a bit) l wish I'd have just lowered my weight a bit. Well, a bit more slowly, anyway... ! Skate Monkey !

Re:Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 15:30 12 Jan 10 Perhaps we should all do a 2min "windmill and reach for the knees" warm up before each session?

Re:Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 12:49 17 Aug 10 I wish I had read this prior to going out on my blades yesterday with friends. I did a superb acrobatic style somersault fall! Dorney Lake. Was going downhill on the bridges. Had a friend holding my hand (she's advanced) and we went over a load of stones. Something knocked me off balance and we were going pretty fast at this point and yep...windmill of death. I had a split second choice - fall into concrete - ouch! fall into the Dorney Lake - too cold! Fall into the grass - yeah it slows you down. It certainly did slow me down and made me flip right over. Quite amusing! No injuries I'm thankful I didn't choose vanity and actually wore pads! They saved me! But what is the trick for going down really steep, quick declines such as bridges? Keep rolling? I might practice on flat terrain for a while. lol! This was my first outing in my skates for 5 years and I almost made it without falling. This was right at the end. The penultimate bridge! Typical!

Re:Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 09:50 18 Aug 10 There are a few "tricks" but the two I think everyone should learn first is scissor and knee bend!!

Scissor - Practice it and use it. From going over rough ground to purposefully skating over cobbles or even landing from a jump you will be much more stable in the scissor position.

Knee bend - They are the body's shock absorbers as well as keeping your weight lower to the ground and making you more stable. Sit in the "air chair"
