Frame length does matter - 13:02 20 Dec 04 Hi All,

When I got my Salomon S-labs I was slightly disappointed that they came with 237 frames. My old skates were 247 (although I didn't know that till I measured them), I guess it teaches me for being a short (and small footed) ass. For those of you that are unaware UK sizes 8.5 and down come with the 237 frame and UK sizes 9 and up get the 247 frame.

The new skates were fantasic (as I think everyone has found now! lol) and much more agile than my 5 year old skates. I did however feel I had lost a bit of power and put it down to being ill at first but wasn't sure. Anyway, Mick got his S-labs the other week, he got the 247 frames but said he wanted the shorter frame (as he already had some 247 skates) so we thought we would try for a swap.

So, same boot, same wheels, same bearings and a frame that is only bigger by 10mm. I was quite surprised by the results! The first thing I noticed was how more stable I was, it's difficult to describe how but I felt much better planted in the floor which I liked. Next came the speed, no I didn't suddenly speed off at 90mph but I feel like I had the power that I used to have, it had given me that little something. The surprise to me though was that I had hardly lost much agility at all, I could still weave and transition without any problem and still much better than my old skates, I guess that a lot of that comes from the Hi-Lo setup.

So, the moral of this story!? God knows I guess it's look at every part of your skates to make sure they are best for you. This slightly longer frame is great for me as I do more street skating than pirouetting indoors in fact the frame swap is now permanent

Re:Frame length does matter - 13:35 20 Dec 04 Well on that basis you better get on the 237's or i need to get 320's to keep up on the next street skate!

Re:Frame length does matter - 13:53 20 Dec 04 Why not go for the street skiing things you've seen on the night skate. Might be the only way to keep up with him now Drakey, you could always break his legs...

Re:Frame length does matter - 09:57 23 Dec 04 ONe day I'd like to try a 237, but if anyone wants to try a 247 that will fit Xmax Reds or Blues my spares have one on.

If you fancy a bit of a change, just try a fierce rocker, right now, with a little file work, my 247 EAs have 76, 80, 84, 80 which is a touch frightening.

Could bring my speed skates if some one wants to try 5*80.

Sounds very frightening!! I would however like to start playing around with rocker once I have gotten used to these skates fully. I'm really surprised that there aren't loads of UFS frames with different setups avaliable everywhere, infact I haven't seen any!
