Guitar stuff! - 07:47 30 Oct 09 Following the now not so recent revelation that there are a few duffers out there attempting to strum away, I thought a small thread regarding this might be useful / fun.

I use www.tabcrawler.com for getting tabs and chords and things.

So, what does anyone else use (if on line at all) and what's the latest thing you've learnt?

Re:Guitar stuff! - 09:27 30 Oct 09 Great idea lemming......
duffers though???? !!!!!

I played a bit this morning actually b4 coming in to work - just strumming a few chords and stuff, nothing tooo technical! (Though did play a bit of Tarrega's Lagrima - do you know that?? A great classical guitar piece, not too difficult!)

A few good sites that you may / may not know:

http://www.chordie.com/
Good for making songbooks for guitar / vocal stuff

http://www.power-tab.net/
I used to get a load of tabs from here and use them in this great tab editor, but haven't used it for a while.

If you play around with any composition at all then this is a good little program for creating scores:

http://www.denemo.org/index.php/Main_Page

It's based around using Lilypond as a score type setting engine and creates really nice looking sheet music. It will work OK on windows but really is a linux developed program.

I found quite a nice site the other days for generating lead sheets:

http://www.wikifonia.org/sheet/popular

You can select the lead sheet you want and then change the key if required - quite useful!

Re:Guitar stuff! - 14:13 30 Oct 09 Good idea Lemming! we'll be having cskate jam seshes next!

I've not much to contribute as still a newbie, the couple of times I've googled acoustic chords for songs its come up with guitartab.com or ultimate-guitar.com or something.

Latest thing I've learnt is guitar is like slalom in terms of it requiring hours and hours and hours of practice to get any good!!

HAH! They obviously grew back again so you'll be ready for it next time you try
Lemming - not sure if you like this sort of thing, but I found a couple of really good albums by someone called JT Bruce on Jamendo. Definitely worth listening to if you get the chance (and like overdriven guitars etc) !!

http://www.subjectruin.net/MUSIC.html

(Can downlaod the music on the Jamendo website)

It's sort of progressive rock (Dream Theatre esque in places) and is highly recommended! All 3 albums are great.
