I've been doing the leg wiggling exercises fairly regularly for a while now. When I skate, my back still hurts after a while. As Hans would say, there's no substitute for skating a lot. That's the best way to strengthen your back.
Having said that, lots of sit ups and back wiggles should make your skating more comfortable generally.
