Re:Sandhurst 2006!!! - 15:12 04 Jan 06
OUCH. Do not read on if you are squeamish. Hi guys, sorry I haven’t been online before, but I’ve been a bit occupied. For anyone who was not there yesterday, I left Sandhurst with a strangely shaped wrist after a fall, to go to A&E. Regrettably I have suffered a very serious fracture on the joint, as well as a dislocation. At the A&E, X-rays showed that the fractured piece on the joint was at right angles to it’s correct position. After a ten minute multiple attack with a syringe into the joint to dispense anaesthetic, one medic held my arm just below the elbow, while another pulled my hand away from my arm and manipulated the joint to try and realign the bone. At first nothing was happening, and then eventually, he got it to line up, but it kept springing back out again. When eventually, about 15 minutes later, it seemed to be vaguely back in place, I was plastered and sent back to X-ray, although the medic was fairly sure at this stage that surgery would be required. Luckily the X-rays showed good alignment. The before and afters were very different, but still a bit of a gap between the broken parts. It was decided at this point to send me home with an appointment to see the specialist at the Fracture Clinic this morning. The specialist this morning informed me that at this stage, it was 50/50 whether to operate. When he realised I am diabetic, he decided to leave it and see how it goes for the next week. If it stays in position, he will leave it, but at best, I will never have much strength or full mobility in that wrist. Thanks to all you guys for your help and support. Thanks also to Timo’s expertise, and yes, it was recorded in the Leisure Centre accident book, but I still have their reusable cold pack which I need to return to them.
