Re:Exercises for Skaters - 14:33 27 Jan 06 I think the most important ones if you're gonna be doing distance are the core areas - lower back and abs. My back killed after Hamburg, and LIM in fact. ! Skate Monkey !

Re:Exercises for Skaters - 11:06 04 Feb 06 Balance is a major part of skating too so it's good if you can practice that. I have heard a few people now that practice standing on one leg every day when brushing their teeth, it's all good practice. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

I think I agree - after my first street skate my back killed me for days - probably due to poor posture but also due to weakness. when am 100% i will try to do the leg wiggling exercise

Re:Exercises for Skaters - 08:08 16 Jun 06 I've been doing the leg wiggling exercises fairly regularly for a while now. When I skate, my back still hurts after a while. As Hans would say, there's no substitute for skating a lot. That's the best way to strengthen your back.

Having said that, lots of sit ups and back wiggles should make your skating more comfortable generally.

Re:Exercises for Skaters - 09:26 16 Jun 06 I've been doing a non-wiggling version, i.e. just leg lifting with no wiggle, and have found that my back doesn't ache quite so much after a street skate. But then I have done more street skates!

I don't know, perhaps it ALL helps. I guess anything that exercises the lower back to help strengthen it is good.
