Wrist Guards - 18:57 11 Apr 06 Me and Pugsley were thinking about investing in a pair each.

Recommendations?

Re:Wrist Guards - 19:32 11 Apr 06 There are two types to choose from. Classic wrist guards and sliders....

Both protect you from gravel rash however only the classic wrist guards will protect your wrist from snapping back.

I can't really think of any particularly good or bad ones really but my preferance is to buy some nicer and more comfy ones. While a helmet is probably the most important in terms of saving your life I would never skate without my wrist guards and wear them the most so comfort is important.

I know it sounds silly but you should also learn how to fall on wrist guards. When you are wearing wrist guards and you fall you should make sure you actively put your hands down and use your guards to take some of the shock and slide along the ground. If you fall awkwardly on guards the can sometimes work against you (speak to mcs next time you see him).
I don't remember getting the packet of biscuits out of the draw but now there is an empty packet next no me! The whole packet gone! - Twitter Status

Re:Wrist Guards - 19:55 11 Apr 06 Thanks Dogsbody -- Classics seem like the best and safest way to go and we'll check out some retailers.

Good point about falling on guards. We'll get some lessons from the experts as soon as we get some.

Many thanks for the advice!

Re:Wrist Guards - 20:32 11 Apr 06 I don't like those 'classic' ones. I often fall and catch my knuckles - something to do with them being by my knees I think. The sliders are good, but no wrist protection.

I'd go for the FSK style ones myself, or something else with is more like a glove:

Sorry - can't find anywhere online in the UK that does them, but just to give you an idea.

Re:Wrist Guards - 20:36 11 Apr 06 Lemming sounds like you need lessons on how to fall properly too

There is an art to it - luckily I was given great advice by Skatefresh when I had a freebie lesson with them. I'll show you next time I see you.

Re:Wrist Guards - 05:27 12 Apr 06 Proline have the FSK guards for 15 quid. I wear those and find them very comfy. Luckily, I've not had to test their capacity for wrist-snappage prevention. Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort

Re:Wrist Guards - 06:59 12 Apr 06 Oh yeah - them's the ones.

I don't find the 'accepted' method of falling much use at speed, unfortunately. You're bound to tear something...

That's probably true, will bow to you superior knowledge of speed (eats humble pie and goes away...!!)

Re:Wrist Guards - 12:46 12 Apr 06 I think if you're wearing full pads (knees and elbows) you can do it, but it's a bit restrictive if you want to go fast.

It's better to fall and roll and pray. Possibly in a slightly different order.

Re:Wrist Guards - 18:23 13 Apr 06 Well, Pugsley's new aggressives arrived this morning, along with a pair of guards for us both. Thought we'd initially try out some classics and see how we get on.

He's been trying the skates out up and down the hall all day and Morticia is extremely concerned that he'll break something -- or even hurt himself!

We might just have to come down Saturday morning ...
