PayPal links - 20:26 11 May 06 We are going to take payment for Goodwood Marathon by PayPal as well as by Cheque. Paypal are going to charge us 3.9% + 20p to use their services (for credit cards).

Q. Should we pass this cost (70p - £1 extra) onto people wishing to pay via PayPal or take these costs ourselves?

Re:PayPal links - 20:43 11 May 06 My personally view is if they pay via paypal, they pay the fee.

There are two reason for this:
1) We are not forcing them to use paypal - we have alternative methods of payment (with no fee attached to using them), however if they find it more conveient to pay via paypal then that is there choice and they should pay the price. We are bacsically just offering them a service - which costs!
2) It may not be alot but I don't see why the Charity (or us) should pay for their personal choice.

Just my 2p worth

They pay via Paypal - they have to pay the fees
They pay via Cheque - they have to buy a stamp..

Re:PayPal links - 22:22 11 May 06 There is NO WAY we should take these costs.

I don't know where to start as to why, but Merry did a good job.

Re:PayPal links - 16:23 12 May 06 I would argue for a compromise (Say 75/80% to user, 20/25% to us).

Don't forget the advantages of having payment by PayPal.
1. It's instantly in our account and cleared.
2. It's simple and quicker and will encourage more entries.
I am more likely to buy something online by PayPal, than by messing about with paperwork and sending off by post as I'm a lazy g*t, so wouldn't bother.
3. Cheques take at least 3 days to clear, and some of them WILL bounce. This may incur a bank charge, and you will have to wait before sending out any confirmation.
4. If they deal by PayPal, they will also have email , so you can send out any paperwork and confirmation by email.

Re:PayPal links - 22:27 12 May 06 IMHO Credit Cards "bounce" more often than cheques as Credit Card transactions can be reversed at any time without warning just by the purchaser phoning the bank. It's a buyers market at the moment From now on I'm going to express all IP addresses in 192.0xa8.0020.235 form just to be awkward. - Twitter Status

Re:PayPal links - 15:01 13 May 06 I'm in agreement with Merry & Lemming, we should NOT take these charges. If I use my credit card on-line some companies charge me £3 for the priviledge so why should we be any different?!

Besides, each couple of quid will eat away into the profits which ultimately means a reduction to charity.

Re:PayPal links - 07:17 25 May 06 I'm paying the charge. Every time I pay with my company Amex I'm told there is a higher charge than other cards, dont even think about it. I'll be registering Jane so I'll be paying that extra, thats ok by me...
