Server Hacked - 23:23 10 Jul 06 Well that was a fun 24 hours!

All sorted now and way way too long a techie story to type up here

There will be some changes to the site coming along soon to try and stop this happening again! I bought some bread this morning. Ciabatta? No, it was a fixed price

However, can you tell me if this is why I have been receiving lots of Spam email for the last 2 weeks? Is it possible that email addreses have been hacked?
Just need to check, as the only organisations I have released my email address to recently is Ruffs charity, and the odd business for making Internet purchases.

Hmm Personal view MCS is probably no but I'm not technical AT ALL so I'll let Dogsbody give you the full technical low down

I was suffering from withdrawl so much that I had to look at serpentineroad.com for comfort!

Being partly technical myself, any chance of posting a summary of what happened? I've got other friends using Mambo and I would like to warn them if it's they might be exposed in the same way.

No, this is not possible. For one the hackers had no interest in e-mail addresses, they wanted the server for a botnet, and secondly all the e-mail addresses were safely locked in a MySQL database that wasn't touched

I would rather not post specifics as it will show others the hole (I almost did a blog post but didn't for the for the same reason). Needless to say I have contacted the revevant people however development seems to have stopped. If your friends are using Simpleboard on Mambo then please get them to e-mail be ASAP.
