Re:Dry bearings - 16:25 02 Nov 06Sorry db and to all those who may be upset or disappointed with the post; this is a friendly site.
Had to respond to Lemmings post though, just thought his first response needed to be address. I do suffer from the little known medical condition Wouldn't-let-it-lie Syndrome. Seems Lemming might be suffering from a related condition Last-word-itus.
I should like to add that I am sorry to see that there appears to be an apparent lack of teaching when it comes to what is respect. Respect is, in general, taught and not earnt; hence some of the problems we find ourselves with today. I include amongst those respects that should be taught: respect for property and possesion; law and those who inforce it; privacy and opinion; and I am sure there are countless others including respect for ones elders. Respect within a peer group is however normally earnt.
When it comes to stating an opinion or passing judgement it is best done with the complete facts. If you're not in possesion of all the details then find them out, perhaps by asking a few confirmatory questions.
Finally (well nearly), Lemming I was talking in general terms about setting high standards and I am sure that whether I choose to maintain my skates properly, or not, shall not be keeping you awake at night.
db, I said ages ago I was off to somewhere .... well different

Re:Dry bearings - 17:11 02 Nov 06Lastworditis...I like. I think I'm actually a sufferer of the same thing as you though.
Anyway.
Respect for one's elders - I agree - but it's not like I'm 15 or something (no offence 15 year olds). If you think that those 8 years you have on me are enough for me to automatically 'respect' you, then you're wrong. I would also question if that is 'older enough' than me to be considered an elder (I'm going on the directory listings here, so I appreciate it might now be 9 years). I agree that there are two types of respect, and I agree generally with your list.
However, your less than magnanimous approach to my apology leads me to retract it. So thanks for that.

Re:Dry bearings - 17:44 02 Nov 06Not at all, originally I understood what Bagpuss was saying. Lemming, I'm sure you know that sometimes you come across harshly and it is a known issue that conversations online can easily be read more than one way which is why emoticons are actually a very important part of communicating in an online world.
Lemming may have last-word-itus however it was an offer of a truce while you Bagpuss have been plain rude and arrogant! Backhanded apologies are worth nothing IMHO.

I also do not see what it has to do with this post either!
db, I said ages ago I was off to somewhere .... well differentYour right, you did! And I am terribly sorry if I burst your bubble but I don't take a particular interest in your life and don't make a point of remembering things like this. Purely by chance I had actually remembered that you were going away but reading your initial post I made no connection whatsoever that this is what you were talking about!
Now, I don't want to have to lock this thread as I tend to think it leaves things hanging so can we please (and I include myself in this) try and move on and onto something else. Thank you. Can someone please tell me why a kettle goes quiet as the water boils!? - Twitter Status

Re:Dry bearings - 18:30 02 Nov 06My apologies are for possibly appearing unfriendly to people visiting the site and for the fact that the education system appears to be forgeting to teach things like respect.
There shall be no truce "We shall fight them on the beaches....."
Handbags at 10 paces
I may only be 8 years 110 days older than you (Lemming) but that hasn't stopped me contributing my taxes and thereby helping to pay for your education (assumption - state schooling). Being the good citizen that I am, I am trying to teach you those things the schools didn't
I really cannot be bothered with this off subject stuff anymore, but thank you both for the advice on what type of bearings may be suitable or any particular maintainance regime I should apply.

Re:Dry bearings - 18:41 02 Nov 06You paid for none of my education, as I am privately schooled and I got no grant at Uni (although my fees were paid, so I guess that makes some of it.)
Your respect comments are laughable (with respect to elders).
Yes, I do come across as harsh - no apology for that.
If you're still willing to listen to the whole point of this thread, however. These are my opinions on the bearings you might like (in order of choice)
1. Waterproof - if water can't get in, then neither can grit. (1.a Those bones ones Dan was talking about, but I don't know anything about them either) 2. Greased - catches the grit better than oil 3. Oiled - if you take these, you'll likely either have seized bearings when you get back, or have to clean them while you're out there (which is noted as not an option).
