New name for Goodwood Roller Marathon - 22:00 07 Jan 07 We have a bit of a problem with "Goodwood Roller Marathon" this year in that we can't call it "Goodwood Roller Marathon" any more! This is a T&C given to us by Goodwood when we hire the track.

We are allowed to say "at Goodwood" at the end of the name though.

We would like to start advertising and organising the event soon but we really rather need a name to sell it under! Ideas please!

Would really quite like to watch every episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer but that would be over 5 days of my life to watch! - Twitter Status

OK, in that case I vote for

A race of approximately marathon distance (26 miles 385 yards, 42 km 195 m) but actually a bit more for people who like to enjoy strapping wheels to their feet with the intention of completing the course faster than someone without aformentioned implements in spite of the horrible wind... at Goodwood.

I think it's catchy. ! Skate Monkey !

I'm not particularly happy about it either! Not only does this mean re-marketing the race this year but everything will need to be changed from the website, forms and bank account. Still we were lucky last year and if we want to grow the event year on year then it's better to change it now than next year when it's even bigger.

I should explain that it's purely the word "Goodwood" that they have the problem with. Only events run by the Goodwood estate are allowed to be called Goodwood <something>, other events like ours have to be called <something> or <something> at Goodwood. So we could drop the Goodwood from the name!?

We would like to REALLY go to town with marketing the event this year by using local TV and radio so going with the current name would really be pushing our luck. NCYPE Roller Marathon

Problem with this if we change charity each year, or something then we have to change everything again

or if we do it for Multipal Charities

Problem with this if we ever decide not to do it for charity..

We could call it Cskate Roller Marathon as thats a constant but it sounds a bit....you know

I can't see that we can do without Goodwood, roller, or marathon in the title, so this leaves as a starting point:-

Roller Marathon at Goodwood

After that, we need to look to our own publicity requirements to make it longer, and consider:-

CSkate Roller Marathon at Goodwood
or
Camberley Skaters Roller Marathon at Goodwood

Introducing CSkate into the title maybe a bit uncatchy, but it can only help publicity and reputation for our group, and we are organising it after all.

We could always call it something completely different! If it was an original name then it would stick and people would know what it was. People are bound to use the name with the location so people should find it.

Otherwise...

Pick one word from here...

Roller
Inline
etc.
...we did agree that as the event is open to any "non powered, small wheeled" transport the word Roller fits quite well.

and pick one word from here
Marathon
Race
Event
etc.
... It doesn't have to be the word marathon, especially as we are going to look at other distances as well this year.

Anyone else with a better idea, there's gotta be better than this.!!

Else there's THE RAPIDS as it a speed event and not just a marathon !!
