Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 08:00 11 Jan 07 Wouldn't be too bad - this would be a long gentle skate, compared to LeMans which is just a bunch of sprints. ! Skate Monkey !

Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 09:27 11 Jan 07 I must have done this a dozen times or more on a bike and it's fantastic - the easiest 54 miles you'll ever do (on a bike that is!). However, with 30,000 official entrants and probably as many again unofficial riders you really need an early start or the congestion can be hell. Also, only about 20% of the riders are "cyclists" the rest are just people on bikes - big difference and most have no road sense at all! There are always dozens of accidents.

I'd really love to do this on skates but I fear the invitation comes at least 15 years too late!!

Why don't we get a cskate posse together though and all skate or ride it? That way, the skaters can hang on to a bike on the downhills for braking.

Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 10:11 11 Jan 07 I hear it's busy and not sure how easy it will be for skates and bikes to stay together. I love this idea though! sounds fun. Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 23:05 11 Jan 07 Roughly how many hours of skating would it involve?!! Tempted!! I finish my course on the 15th June I think so it would be a great way to celebrate and double my achievement

Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 03:13 12 Jan 07 I highly recommend you read LS-Mikes write up from last year. It'll give an idea of time, not only how long it too but the early start Teaching myself how to sew! Just saved myself a few quid buy sewing up three pairs of trousers I had ripped - Twitter Status

Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 12:31 13 Jan 07 Looks like it takes quite a while although they did say they had 2 hours of stops!! Only nagging thing is that they would probably all have been on speed skates...are you thinking of doing it on your FSK's?! Early start wouldn't bother me...I'll be well used to that while I am teaching!!

Re:London to Brighton - Sun 17th June 2007 - 12:45 13 Jan 07 Yes to FSK's, I don't have speed skates! I have my long frames but I get on better with the FSK's and did Berlin on them.

I figure we make a day of it. As long as it doesn't take longer than 8 hours we'll be OK
