Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 22:22 29 Jul 07 I must say I'm pretty happy I finally came!
Weather was great (comparatively to the rest of the month), it was nice to put a face on some names here (even though I've already forgotten some), I managed to finish the race, which I was all but sure of, and even with a respectable time.
See you around dorney / camberley.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 22:59 29 Jul 07 Realy enjoyed myself. Thanks for inviting us longboarders, the excellent organisation, and the good vibes throughout the day.

Here's to next year

Keith

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 09:30 30 Jul 07 WOW!! thanks for a great day out, but boy are my knees feeling it today. I can't believe how hard it was, well done to the speed skaters for finishing in such impressive times, also Keith..71 years young and having a go. I did finish and about the time I thought I would, not sure if I could do it again.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 10:23 30 Jul 07 Well - that's my first inline marathon over and done with - my back's pretty well seized up too. I enjoyed the event but do have a couple of comments - particularly from someone who's involved in organising/marshalling bike races and triathlons and try to make some constructive comments to make an event with great potential even better:
How about extending the race distance for the 'fast' skaters - you've hire the circuit for five hours, so how about extending the 'fast' distance to 60 or 80km - you might attract some interest from further afield and make it a bit more of a 'challenge'?
Use Tyvek, not paper numbers - they don't tear.
A PA might help to keep people informed of the action - very few people seemed to know who the leader was and who had won.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 11:41 30 Jul 07 Hi Monty dog

Well done on completing your first inline marathon. Glad you had a good day, and thank you for your suggestions which we will note.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to use the PA at Goodwood, but we take on board you point of advising when races were finishing, we could use the megaphone for that.

Your other points we'll put into the pot of ideas / feedback we receive and discuss at our de-briefing meeting.

Once again well done and thank you for supporting this event.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 12:55 30 Jul 07 This was our fist Goodwood under the 'new management' and wow, what a difference! I was really impressed with the size of the event and the organisation that'd obviously gone into it so well done to everyone that was involved.
Unfortunately, I had to pull up after 9 laps with bad quad cramp - a fact which Mrs Wobbly will no doubt remind me of for the rest of eternity as she managed to complete all 11!

I like the sound of Monty Dog's ideas for next year too.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 16:11 30 Jul 07 Use Tyvek, not paper numbers - they don't tear. They weren't Tyvek as that's expensive (and mainly for triathlons?) but they certainly weren't paper. We went in between and used Polyart numbers which are still waterproof and tear resistant and a little cheaper.

We like the idea of a longer race as well. We are trying not to change too much at once, this is only our second year doing this and it's amazing some of the knock on effects from changes. I have spent all day doing the chip timing results as it's now three races we need results for.

You can be assured we'll take your feedback on board for next year.... my god, are we doing it next year!
Had a very quiet, relaxing but fun time at Eastbourne Extreme. Oh I do like to be beside the sea side. - Twitter Status

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 17:03 30 Jul 07 It's a bit like childbirth (or so I'm told) you forget how bad it is and agree to do it all over again

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 17:07 30 Jul 07 How about maximum number of laps travelled in three hours, rather than just a race distance? No doubt variations will come out in the wash-up meeting.
