Re:New name for Goodwood Roller Marathon - 16:26 08 Jan 07 I'm not sure about calling it our event (even though CSkate are organising it) but I see what you mean about dropping Goodwood from the title all together.

Not very original but since you have LIM (London In-line Marathon) could it be SEIM (South East In-line Marathon) or SERM (South East Roller Marathon) or even SIM (Southern In-line Marathon).

As I said not very original but thats about as far as my brain will stretch for now!!

How about Cskate Roller Race?

Or SRE Southern Roller Event? (Picking up on Chez's lead) at Goodwood

This way you leaving open who can take part as anything with in-line in the title implies it is only for in-liners but Roller says "anything that rolls" lol. Also you are not restricted by the word marathon if you use event!

Or Cskate Rollers Annual Pursuit but that spells C.R.A.P. and is not really the message you are gonna want to put across.

Re:New name for Goodwood Roller Marathon - 05:49 09 Jan 07 The problem is using acronyms in publicity is that they must be clearly identifiable i.e. the FA Cup. If it involves terms that only people already in the skating fraternity know then it might not be very effective in drawing in new blood.

Using a place name, or region, in the title would be useful, but how small/large do you go? Is it close enough to the south coast to be called something like The South Coast Roller Marathon,perhaps?

Association with a charity could be an idea but it might be more inducing if it was just a charity event in general without a link to a specific charity. Unless of course the option is to go for a really large charity but that might take some of the fun out of organising it.

Then of course there is sponsorship e.g. the FloraLondon Marathon. Again though there is the use of a place name. Perhaps the Goodwood estate could sponsor the event? Then again, would they let their name be used if they were to be involved to some degree with the event?

Re:New name for Goodwood Roller Marathon - 10:42 09 Jan 07 If we're hoping to grow the event year on year, why not be slightly audacious and stick the word "British" at the beginning? I'm sure it used to be called something like that in the past and it does add a certain grandeur to it.

Something like *British Roller Marathon" or "British Roller Grand Prix".

I think the name Goodwood should definitely be kept as it's steeped in history and synonymous with racing of one kind or another. Also, most people will know roughtly where it is.

On the advertising we could simply add "presented by Camberley Skaters" or "Camberley Skaters present" etc.

PS If we're not allowed to use Goodwood, would we get away with using Good Wood??
