Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 02:08 23 Jun 07 i have a problem with my car.

it leaks petrol when i put a full tank in it..it only leaks a litre or 2. but, it stinks of petrol when it does......

now, the problem, i dont want to get refused onto the ferry because the car is either leaking petrol or smells so strong that the dont want it on the ferry.

come to fink of it... remember last year when i got dan to put that extra £2 in??? i think it was actually leaking then and we got on fine.

so if i fill it up 3/4 full... can i fill the rest up in france?

im going to put a full tank of petrol in on sunday and see how long it takes to stop leaking.... its no the filler pipe that leaks,... i think the whole tank needs lookingat, so its not a quick job that i'll be able to get fixed.

alternativly my mum has offered that i take her ford focus, but i'd have to pay for insurance and breakdown cover again...

what do i do???
just dont hit the cones!

Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 09:25 23 Jun 07 so if i fill it up 3/4 full... can i fill the rest up in france? No problem at all, that is why I never collected the £60 from you instead of collecting it and giving it back like last year. Just let us know on the radios when you want to stop.

what do i do???Take it to a garage!!??

Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 09:36 23 Jun 07 Well if it was me I’d want to find out where the leak is so I knew whether it was a serious problem or not - it can only be one of a few things. Either the tank’s seriously corroded somewhere which is probably doubtful on a new(ish) car like yours. The fuel sender unit/pump is leaking or it’s the lower union between the filler pipe and tank. I’ve never worked on a Focus so these are only generic suggestions though. If it only happens when you fill right up I’d look at the filler pipe union first.

Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 11:54 23 Jun 07 For the trip just go with filling it up 3/4, you'll be fine getting on the ferry.

But as bitwobbly says worth finding out where it's coming from.

How old is your car?

Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 13:00 23 Jun 07 my focus is about 8 years old. it passed its MOT the other month... because it doesnt leak all the time.

i think the top of the tank might be a bit corroded ( cars rust quicker here with all the sea salt around in the air!)... the filler pipe doesnt go in to the top of the tank, it goes into the side so i dont think its that as whn its full up i the petrol runs down the front and back sides of the tank..

and with the sender pump bit, does the engine have to be on for that to work... if it does, then its not that thats leaking as it leaks when the engine is off!
i might pop down to ford on monday as see what they say.

we'll go with 3/4 tank for france then!!

thanks for the advice guys!

Re:Le Mans 2007 - Details - 08:08 24 Jun 07 Anything for you Freeman

As DB says just let us know when you want to stop. Think I'm leading the charge so Ii'll look out for Petrol Stations....I think there's one very close to the port the other side but I guess you want to use up some petrol first???

We'll play it by ear we've got lots of time.
