Re:Double Push - 07:53 25 Jun 07 *sigh*

I'll post something up when I'vve got more time.

However, for the time being, stride 3 is NOT double push.

As the name implies, there are two pushes from each leg per stride.
One to the inside (the under push - which is what you do when you're doing (proper) corssovers) and a 'normal' push, to the outside.

That netracing site is a good one, but I think it was not well received by the spped skaters. I've got a couple of the eddy vids either here or at work.

Here's another link that I bounced to the top about 3 weeks ago... but it only shows someone doing it, not the explanation.

It's worth noting that it's a very difficult skill and it's usefulness is at least partly questioned. Certainly you want to have a good 'normal' stride before starting out on double push (according to Mr. Baumgartner).

Re:Double Push - 23:14 25 Jun 07 Perhaps it could be considered as buttering (or low fat spreading) a slice of bread using both sides of the knife: you go across the bread spreading with one side of the knife, the knife is then turned on its edge and taken back across the bread.

I think it maybe something like: after doing your recovery the plant skate is placed down in front of you on its outside edge. The plant foot, on outside edge, is pushed (1st) across the body (if the plant foot is the right foot then it would be towards the left) continuing across until a point just before gravity takes over and you fall. Then by steering ( ) the plant skate back across the body (towards the right) you transfer on to its inside edge and push (2nd) outwards as a normal stride. The kickback in the motion of the recovery must aid the 1st push through weight transfer Seems a lot of outside edge is required for the first push. Perhaps some Elastoplasters too.

That is what I thought both Stride 3 and Double Push were... I think!

That's not a bad description. The butter analogy isn't bad either.

However...

I don't think the kickback part of the recovery is required for the push. I think this was the main thing moaned about about that online tutorial.
Not convinced about a set down on the inside edge either, although my eddy matzger vid shows him setting down right on the inside edge. The trouble with this is that you will tend to lose your nose, knees, toes line, which should be a starting point for any decent stride.

I've found one of the vids but it's 20 Meg - Ideas how to host please?
