Salomon Crossmax Alu Heel Attack - 12:09 27 May 05 The Solomon Crossmax skates come with an "Alu Heel Attack" which is a peice of metal that sits between the boot and frame just on the back mounting...

... Salomon sell this with the statement: "The large insert ensures a direct energy transfer from the heel to the frame providing more reactivity. The alu heel attack will boost you in bladercross."

Anyway, when I went from my old skates to my new Crossmax I really felt like I was leaning too far forward. I lean forward way too much anyway when I skate so I decided to take the Alu Heel Attack plate out. This also has the added advantage that the brake block now fitted without modification!

Yesterday I decided to put the Alu Heel Attack plate back in now that I am used to my new skates. Interesting differences!! In no particular order...
  1. It really is surprising how raising your heel by a few mm can push your whole body weight so much further forward, it will take some getting used to but it may actually make me sit back further by overcompensating.
  2. I did notice a bit of a power increase, you can push a lot better with your heal now and can actually feel the extra push that your giving
  3. It does however make tarting about harder work. Flipping to backwards requires you to lift your heal up further and bloodsurfing now puls your legs further apart
  4. The break housing now needs modifying to fit my skate but that's not a biggie
Well I hope this write up helped somone

Re:Salomon Crossmax Alu Heel Attack - 20:32 27 May 05 I must admit i had my reservations coming from the Deemax without it, but i soon got use to it, although it annoying to have to hack at your heel brake to ge it to fit

Re:Salomon Crossmax Alu Heel Attack - 22:36 11 Jun 05 Update: I have a a pair of "Salomon 255mmFSK CC Hi-lo" Frames and interestingly enough, even though they are Salomon and even though they are UFS AND Hi-Lo they only fit on my S-labs with the Alu Heel Attack aten out!

Sorry, I thought it was interesting

He is right a lot more beer!!!

The metal plate on the heel should in theory improve the transfer of power from your heel to the rear two wheels (which should do all the work if you are skating efficiently) but with the padding in the boots i am not sure how much difference you will feel.

Care for company on that beer fopr sad skaters

Re:Salomon Crossmax Alu Heel Attack - 20:40 14 Jun 05 Remember kids, drinking isn't cool.

Getting wasted is bad. A couple of quiet drinks, to a nice level of drunkeness is good though. I've decided that hangovers just aren't worth the trouble.

Also, having drunk so much that I almost died through ... well, if you want to hear that story you'd have to ask - I'm not going to force it on anyone here...
