Re:Introduce yourself! - 20:57 04 Jul 07 Yes - having decided to buy some new skates and seeing what was coming up on ebay I got myself some Powerslide R1s and a 5x80mm frame and wheels. Then a pair of R4s came up with 100mm wheels in my size at silly money - so ended up with those too! Tried the R1's the other night and they were pretty painful - I have to try them in the oven to heat mould them or else they're for sale. The R4s aren't anything like as painful, so expect they'll see some use. Tricky getting used to the longer frames - certain lose the manoueverability but they were oh, so much faster. See how I get on with them on Eelmoor before committing to Goodwood....

Re:Introduce yourself! - 06:51 05 Jul 07 Nice. Soon you'll be scared of your shorter frames 'cos they're too manouverable... ! Skate Monkey !

Re:Introduce yourself! - 09:31 05 Jul 07 Being a competitive cyclist for many years, I'm not afraid of lycra, taking things so seriously that leg shaving often happens too - it's sad when you think that lycra and hairy legs looks wrong! That said, I'll stick to baggies at the moment because lycra sort of implies a degree of confidence and competence and falling on your ar$e in lycra is not a good look. I did try and do a 180 degree spin into reverse on the longer frames and you guessed it, nearly fell-over.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 09:12 06 Jul 07 Welcome Monty Dog and Sanderella to the Cskate site.

Monty Dog - I may see you at Eelmoor sometime. Post if you're going and maybe you will find others will join you.

Sanderella - Pehaps you will get down to the Arena sometime. It isn't free regrettably, but a few of us usually attend the Saturday 5:00pm session.
I think it's unlikely you will find anywhere you can skate indoor for free, but if you find a place indoor or outdoor, then submit it to Dogsbody for the Places to Skate FAQ.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 13:54 23 Aug 07 My turn!

I'm Slice from the London Rollergirls. I've been back on skates for about 9 months after a fifteen or so year hiatus. I injured my knee a couple of months back and it's slowly getting better but it frustrating I can't skate like I want to right now.

I do roller derby in london, and finally got myself out for my first street skates. Alas summer has not really made an apprearance and so the indoor wheels have been on my quad skates for a while now. I'm aiming for one of the organised street skates soon - just need to be here when it's not raining so I can actually get out there.

I just went to Vegas and took my quads in my hand luggage as I was terrified they might lose them. Is that normal?

Re:Introduce yourself! - 21:15 23 Aug 07 Welcome Sliceandice

I love that the last thing you learnt was leg whips. I saw them on Roller Jam and have been trying to convince people at where we skate to do them with me but no one will!
