Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 21:13 25 Jun 08 Nope

It can do if you want but the route we take isn't really that slow.

Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 13:15 26 Jun 08 Is anyone aware of road names changing in France? Someone mentioned this to me today that the N158 has been changed to deparmental roads. This might not be true - but it got me wondering.

Here's the google map of our route last time (I think): <broken link>

Does anyone know anything about this? I'll get an up to date road atlas and check it tonight.

Edit: The link wouldn't work.

Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 13:26 26 Jun 08 Thanks y'all for the well wishes.

Doing the food shopping tonight and if they have any europe road atlas at the supermarket I'll have a flick to compare....

As I remember last year Le Mans was well sign-posted not far out of the port tho once we got on the main road?

Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 13:33 26 Jun 08 I suspect its just that the roads appear to be named both by their N name and D name (national/departmental). Red, do you know?

Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 14:33 26 Jun 08 Hello!

Why are you worried about the difference in the road names? Is it for the route? Or because you're worried the surface will have changed???

Even if it is a "departementale" it doesn't make much difference, it just means the maintenance is now done by the "departement" and is not financed by the national highway people. Generally an N road can't be called a D road, it's one or the other...And road names don't change very often, they tend to add roads and that changes the way others are called..(I think I may be going into too much detail!)

If it's because you're slightly worried about getting lost, try viamichelin.com (they do good france maps)...

Honestly, you shouldn't have any trouble finding Le Mans, I think that it's fairly well marked from anywhere anyway.

Where do you get to in France? Le Havre? Or Cherbourg? I think that from Le havre Le Mans is signposted (and if it isn't, follow Rouen, then Le Mans is definitely signposted)...
If Cherbourg, I think probably follow Caen then Le Mans...it's a big town so it will be marked fairly quickly!

Good luck!!!!

Re:Le Mans 2008 - 28 & 29th June 2008 - 14:57 26 Jun 08 Thanks for the info.

I'm not worried. Like you say its clearly marked. Also we've got three drivers who did this run before. Shouldn't be a problem finding the place.
