How about extending the race distance for the 'fast' skaters - you've hire the circuit for five hours, so how about extending the 'fast' distance to 60 or 80km - you might attract some interest from further afield and make it a bit more of a 'challenge'?
Use Tyvek, not paper numbers - they don't tear.
A PA might help to keep people informed of the action - very few people seemed to know who the leader was and who had won.

Not too sure about the length, but heck I'm always happy to stop at 11 laps. Yesterday, a chunk of the "fast types" were racing for the marathon as part of the embrionic BIC. Which rather restrics it. I can see one or two wanting to go for longer.

Numbers wise, the new LSST skin suits are just too short for those sized numbers, (one of many issues with their size I fear) but the usual Le Mans duct tape trick stops tearing.

Winners, Monty, come ask me next year, most of us knew who was going to win at the start line.

As I've said on one or two fora today, top race, so much smoother than any other UK marathon I've done.

How about maximum number of laps travelled in three hours, rather than just a race distance? No doubt variations will come out in the wash-up meeting.

Thats a good idea - personally 11 laps is plenty enough for me but from the point of view of some one who takes >2 hours to complete the marathon the track starts to feel very empty when (it seems like) most people have finished.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 07:54 31 Jul 07 Doh

Miscounted and ended up doing 12 laps instead of 11.

Yep she did REALLY well, and seemed quite OK afterwards too !! The benefit of being young I guess

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 09:27 31 Jul 07 Interesting that it all finished so much quicker this year. Or so it seemed.

Tom and I are up for doing the water stop next year again, but we will get more Southsea Roller Hockey Club members to help out. Last year we just coped with 2 of us. This year was totally manic and we really struggled, especially with the Imperial skaters coming round in a big bunch and wanting water.

I'm not entirely sure how much the water stop helps people, because they really don't take in enough from us alone if they are doing the marathon.

Re:Goodwood Roller Marathon - 29th July 2007 - 10:00 31 Jul 07 Peter, we have had some great comments about how good the the water stop was send to the organisers address and using the contact form on the site. When I have finished sorting the chip timing I'll try and put some of it together for you Embedding gravatar.com icons in the Goodwood Roller Marathon site to give each racer a unique avatar that they can change if they want. - Twitter Status
