Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 23:29 27 Dec 07 This thread discusses the Content article: Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation

Here it is boys and girls, please be gentle

OJ, you can rip it to shreads if you like but if you do, guess who will be writing the replacement

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 22:36 31 Dec 07 Yeah - Wot Lemming said.

It makes sense and is easy reading.

Just a minor point for info. Some skates have 76mm wheels on the front 2 axles, and 80mm wheels on the rear axles, so 1 to 3, 2 to 4 doesn't work. (No they are not rockered, the frame is designed with the front bearings 2mm lower in the frame than the rear.) The only method with these is 1 to 2, 3 to 4.

And then of course there are 5 wheel frames.

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 10:36 02 Jan 08 Thanks all.

Good point MCS, my skates were supplied exactly as you have pointed out but luckily have offset spacers so that I could make them flat. I'll have a look and see where I can add your comment.

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 21:25 02 Jan 08 Don't worry too much about integrating comments (unless you want to), that is what this thread is for

My comment, once you have done this guide a few times then buy some callipers and see how your wearing your wheels down. Not only can you put four equal wheels together when you swap wheels but it can sometimes get a good idea of your skating from how your wearing them down

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 21:51 04 Jan 08 Good advice DB.
BTW I have calipers and if anyone wants, I could always bring them down to Sandhurst next time I'm there.
MCS, I'll leave your advice in this thread then

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 22:58 14 Jan 08 It's good stuff elric. However, at the risk of being labeled a pedant (though that particular ship may well have sailed) I'd like to quote Lynne Truss at you:

"...the word "it's" (with apostrophe) stands for "it is" or "it has". If the word does not stand for "it is" or "it has" then what you require is "its". This is extremely easy to grasp. Getting your itses mixed up is the greatest slolecism in the world of punctuation. No matter that you have a PhD and have read all of Henry James twice. If you still persist in writing "Good food at it's best", you deserve to be struck by lightning, hacked up on the spot and buried in an unmarked grave."

A little harsh perhaps, but she knows how to make a point.

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 14:15 15 Jan 08 Lynne Truss:

This is extremely easy to grasp.

Who is she trying to kid? I'll be the first to agree she knows more about correct puntuation than me but an apostrophe is not simply a sign for omitted letters, it also stands for possesion and varies in placement depending on singular or plural status and it is pretty much abused / used everywhere.
Just take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe

Anyway yes I see I have miss-used it and will happily edit it

Re:Beginners guide to Wheel Rotation - 13:03 16 Jan 08 Thank-you.

I probably shouldn't let things like that bother me.
