Goodwood water stop - 12:52 28 Mar 08 Water stop plans for this year

1. Move stop closer to the start, so skaters are still going uphill. LSST suggested this, as our stop last year was just beyond the point where skaters started accelarating. I think the position we have used in the past was simply a base of beig close to water.

2. I am going to get one of this year's helpers to design a cup holder so we can skate with a lot more cups.

3. I would like to put a bottle refill stop for the speedskaters. All I was planning to do is to get skaters to drop their bottles on the side of the track, we will refill them and put them on a table to be picked up on the next lap. I am aware that we don't service the speedskaters as well as we could, so I am hoping this will help.

Any input/suggestions will be appreciated.

Dan - I know you have access to the LSST web site, so could you pass this information onto them and let me know what they say?

Re:Goodwood water stop - 21:16 28 Mar 08 That's great Peter, let us know if there is anything we can do to help or provide!?

Lemming has kindly already posted your question on the LSST forum so we'll see if that comes to anything. I know I have talked to them in the past about it and most will happily go a marathon without water although now we are doing the Mega that will probably change

Re:Goodwood water stop - 22:49 28 Mar 08 Thanks for this Peter.

1. Move stop closer to the startThis sounds good to me.
It gives the opportunity to finish the drink while still skating slowly, I had tried to gulp the water down while travelling slowly on the downhill so I could throw the cup at the bottom of the hill, but it wastes the downhill advantage. (Well actually I gave up and stopped most laps at the water point).

Think the 100Km skaters may be wanting their own special drinks, but guess they will organise this themselves.

Re:Goodwood water stop - 20:41 29 Mar 08 I think it's fair to say that for a marathon distance, unless it's really hot, you shouldn't need to take on more than a water bottle (that we tend to carry anyway).

However, for the 100 (which I may be doing) I will need to get more into me. I may go with my camelbak for this though, as I can get 3 litres in that. Plus, I'll need my special mix as well - water won't be enough.

You never know though - it won't hurt to have it somewhere on that long straight rather than on the outside of the bend just as we're (supposedly) getting quicker.

Re:Goodwood water stop - 22:29 29 Mar 08 I was thinking the same the other day - if it's a warm day, then 3-4 litres could be the order, and it would need to be isotonic, not water. Perhaps there's a need for a extra feed-stop for the Mega-participants, so we can line up our bottles and help ourselves as we need it - also depends on whether we get access to the in-field and helpers can pass-up bottles?

Re:Goodwood water stop - 07:37 31 Mar 08 I can remember one wet year - the 2nd one I think. I thought everybody would stop skating but we all just carried on. The best bit (if you can call it that) was the big puddle at the bottom of the hill coming into the start-finish straight. We went the other way round in those days but it was still a good laugh to generate a bow wave with your skates.
