Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum... with UFS frames?? - 09:13 11 Apr 08 I have seen the Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum's reviewed on a few sites and hadn't really noticed them much, with a 285mm frame and 90mm wheels they aren't what I'm looking for at all. That is until I read Davey Speedstar's blog post about them, they seem to have UFS frames!!

For those of you not aware the UFS (Universal Framing System) was invented by Salomon for the aggressive skates so that skaters could swap different frames onto the same boot. As time went on Salomon decided to use the same mounting system on their recreational and then Freestyle "FSK" boots.

I love my Salomon FSK's, and over the years have built up a nice collection of frames that I can put on my skates. There was always talk of Salomon trying to get other skate manufacturers to adopt UFS but to my knowledge (and I could be wrong) it never happened, now that Solomon are gone from the marketplace I was almost resigned to the fact I would have to chuck all my UFS frames when I bought new skates!!

I may be interested in getting some Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum purely for the boot now!

Re:Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum... with UFS frames?? - 10:16 11 Apr 08 Interesting.

Rollerblades description of this skate is a little skimpy. It does not mention UFS frame, but it does say that it has a quick adjustment to a shorter wheelbase length, and that the frame can be adjusted laterally.

Requires some investigation perhaps. Can you not get some to test for an article?

Re:Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum... with UFS frames?? - 11:22 11 Apr 08 After a spot of frantic searching Ifound my source for the UFS claim is:

Inline Planet (I've been caught out with the ufs/non-ufs thing before so I knew I would've checked).

Athough I can't vouch for the accuracy of other web-sites, if anyone wants to road-test a pair then form a queue (behind me ). I love the idea of the long frame and big wheels for week-day commuting, and swapping the set-up for week-end playing in the park.

Re:Rollerblade RB 8 Platinum... with UFS frames?? - 12:54 11 Apr 08 It does not mention UFS frame, but it does say that it has a quick adjustment to a shorter wheelbase length, and that the frame can be adjusted laterally.Again I could be wrong but I thought that was one of the shortfalls of the UFS that it didn't have any lateral movement [1] which came from the aggressive skate days where you didn't need it.

That doesn't mean that Rollerblade haven't adopted UFS, it would actually be a very sensible things for them to do. I'm just kinda surprised no one has made a bigger deal of it! Makes me think I am missing something!

[1] We have just had a fight in the office about which direction "Lateral Movement" is in!
