Advice Please - New PC required - 21:15 08 Apr 08 I got home this evening to a dead PC

It's way overdue me getting a new one and it's no longer cheaper to build your own PC so I'm looking at buying a box! Trouble is I have never bought a whole box before and EVERYONE is selling them, I am totally lost where to go and what is good.

Can anyone recommend a company (or even a PC!)
Must have's...
- RAID 1 (mirroring of two drives)
- Windows XP (yeak)
- Preferably AMD instead of Intel
- Be medium spec (I have no need for the latest quad core but probably need better than a Celeron, 2GB RAM, 300GB HD (x2).
- Cheapish!?

Any recommendations at all!

Thank you

Re:Advice Please - New PC required - 10:19 09 Apr 08 Dell don't do home machines with XP & RAID!

I could buy a business machine but they are blimmin expensive compared to the same home version. Saying that, my machine is on 24/7

Unless they are in favour of Badger Flinging. We like that.

Re:Advice Please - New PC required - 16:38 09 Apr 08 We bought my Dad's PC from Novatech - it was 6 years ago though.

It was their cheapest no-frills model. Very basic case and specification. It was reasonbly well put together and is still in use today. Some of the parts used were not that great - particularly the motherboard, but for how much we paid for it you can't complain!

Even though its not usually the cheapest way anymore, I'd still prefer to build myself if I could - that way you know exactly what you are getting inside. Pre-built machines sometimes cut corners with the parts you don't see.

I've always found the newer Dells we use at work pretty decent.
