Re:Introduce yourself! - 13:11 26 Mar 08 Welcome to the site Kirsty.

As Mansfield pointed out with a link, there are Saturday indoor sessions all year at Camberley Leisure Centre. If you want to learn more about skating then it's worth going to the 8:30am session there. If you can get up on a Saturday morning, (most of us can't) then the one hour session is devoted to teaching, with everybody divided into child/adult and experience groups for learning different manoeuvres etc.

Our street skates are small, a bit ad-hoc and don't happen very often regrettably, but we always take the pace according to who's there. Dogsbody is usually our lead man on this as he knows the skate-ability of most the streets in the area. So we generally post when the weather looks good to instigate a skate.

If you look under the FAQs Places to Skate you will find some local off road skating areas listed.

You may be aware that we organise the Goodwood Roller Marathon. It's a charity event for all levels of skater, and can be done just for fun or serious competition.

Hope to see you around soon on some of the activities.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 13:13 26 Mar 08 Longer evenings = me at Dorney Lake (see FAQ).

You'll find a few people go to Eelmoor (see FAQ) on a semi-regular basis too though.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 14:20 26 Mar 08 Thanks for all of the info! I'll try and prise myself out of bed for a Saturday morning session although how sucessful I'll be remains to be seen.

I've already discovered the delights of Dorney having rollerski'ed there a while back and I'm usually easily pursuaded to do the Sunday Stroll so if anyone wants some company at either let me know.

I'll keep an eye out for skates when they're arranged and hopefully meet you all soon!

Thanks K

Re:Introduce yourself! - 15:00 26 Mar 08 Welcome Kirsti,
I only started skating last year as well, you'll be fine here.
I know what you mean about Surrey, I was not so lucky but occasionaly I'll make the 2 hour journey to visit Camberley.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 21:02 22 Apr 08 I've been skating for a whole 4 weeks now! I'm fat and 44 (going on 12) and decided that for my physical and mental wellbeing I needed to get the old ticker racing. Years ago I had bought myself a cheap pair of quads and an even cheaper pair of inlines. I'd had a crack at the quads but had never tried the inlines. A couple of months ago my friend mentioned that she took her 2 little boys to a skate club and invited me to go with them. I promptly invested in a semi decent pair of quads.

Last week I decided I would give my inlines a go and felt so much more comfortable on them so invested in a pair of better ones which I am going to be trying out on Saturday!

So far I know how to 'go' and how to stop via the medium of a brick wall usually. I have fallen countless times and hurt myself once. I've set myself 3 goals, The FNS in London, the marathon at Goodwood and to take the dogs out for a run with me on my skates.

I have no idea how long it will take me to get the stamina and confidence to start to reach those goals but I'm having a blast working at it.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 01:19 23 Apr 08 Welcome Dogstar,
I am pretty new to skating myself and set myself similar goals, the walking the dogs was also one of mine which I can happily say I have completed.

My best advice would be to get along to Camberley's Saturdays sessions, they will look after you and get you moving much quicker than trying all alone.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 07:06 23 Apr 08 Welcome.

One tiny suggestion - start with the WNS - it tends to be a bit easier / slower.

Re:Introduce yourself! - 08:00 23 Apr 08 Or even start with the Sunday stroll. That really is beginner-friendly.

I'm sure you know that all the details are on www.lfns.co.uk
