Re:Cskate asbox - 17:26 11 Apr 08 Basically what it's saying is you need 2.25 to 2.30 Volts per cell. That's 13.5 to 13.8 Volts for the 12 volt pack. At that voltage it will self regulate it's charge.

Current limiting will not be required, providing there is no more than 2.1 Amps available from the supply (the maximum charge rate for the battery).

What is not specified (unless I've missed it somewhere), is that there should be minimal AC ripple applied to the battery, as this will severely reduce the battery life. Yuasa make reference to this in their data sheets.

Either a bench power supply which can be set to give fixed voltage output with current limiting, or a properly designed charger should be used. Here's is one that Maplin supply.

Re:Cskate asbox - 20:19 11 Apr 08 You're a diamond MCS,
My battery is much smaller, 3Ah if I read it correctly.
I'll carry on the build using mine but enable DB's to be fitted, perhaps Cskate will be able to fund the charger once I deliver the box If not then you'll still have my battery.

I have one more clear week then I'm off to China for a couple, I expect I'll have it ready for road testing about a week later (mid May), hmmmm I feel a Camberley street skate could be in order
Oh nominations for pilots start soon

Re:Cskate asbox - 21:04 11 Apr 08 I'm pretty sure I have a bench power supply in storage with current limiting that you could borrow (sorry, I would want this back). Let me know if I should get it out, although I would still need to get it over to you somehow! The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

That will be my job next time I'm over that way I guess.

I've actually got one myself, but often use it.

If the system tests out OK then I think CSkate may well fund a charger. We did offer some funding, and we're really pleased you have taken all this on for us Elric.

Re:Cskate asbox - 22:35 11 Apr 08 Either MCS or I can give it to you on a London Skate now I guess!?

Mines in storage as I don't have the space to do electronics any more but if you could let me know if you want it as I'm planning to going to storage this weekend.

Re:Cskate asbox - 09:41 12 Apr 08 No worries guys, I can get it all working with the battery I have.

I'll make space for your battery and later you can swap them about as you please.
Once we have something built it will be really easy to adapt it as we go along, the only tricky part is making the speaker enclosure and that's just going to be trial and error to get it right, the present design is a bit like but not nearly so steep on the angles, the speakers are angled slightly outward and the back is angled so that it does not hurt the pilot, it does however mean the volume inside the enclosure is smaller.
If anyone has any fibreglass insulation that would be usefu but I think I can get lots of foam so no real worry, again trial and error to see what works best.

I have some acoustic wadding (BAF wadding I think) over here.

Maplins stock wadding at a reasonable price.

Re:Cskate asbox - 12:05 13 Apr 08 Thanks MCS,

Re:Cskate asbox - 21:39 13 Apr 08 Sounds great! There are some great website for speaker enclosures out there.

Oh and if you do buy anything from Maplins then don't forget to use our affiliate links

Re:Cskate asbox - 23:02 13 Apr 08 The box is built but needs a small modification, I just have to build an amp and battery holder. Due to the enclosure being one piece I am a little worried about distortion from one side to the other, I don't want to try bridging the amp because I read that if any non zero voltage was found on any of the negative speaker terminals it would damage the amp, I found about 5v.
I am thinking about connecting the MP3 jack so both positives are shorted, this should give me mono and stop one speaker cone pushing the other one. this is just small mod so we can play around later if we need to.

I have found something that does worry me slightly, Whilst wearing the rucksack frame, If I lean my head back I can make contact with the frame, so I want to find some foam pipe lagging or an old BMX handle bar padding to put over the top, my concern is someone falling over backwards while wearing it.

We are deffo still on track for May.
