Isn't there one near Blackbushe?
http://www.blackbushemotors.com/. They are next door to the scrap yard I think. However you cannot wander around the yard. You have to go to the counter where they keep the stripped parts inside.

Re:Cskate asbox - 12:10 08 Jul 08 What information do we have on the battery?

I presume it's 12 Volt.
What capacity?
Is it sealed lead acid or Gel (dryfit)?
Any charging info on the case other than, "Charge at 0.6A for 5-10hr or 3.0A for 1hr", previously mentioned by DB.

If it's lead acid then I may be able to help. I have an old 6/12 Volt low power charger which may be re-storable if I change the plate rectifier to silicon and add resistors if required.

Re:Cskate asbox - 16:02 08 Jul 08 Yep 12V sealed lead acid + the two other batteries from ths UPS which you identified before.

All I can say is I have charged it quite a number of times fast and trickle from my car battery charger, I can find out the specs of the charger if it helps.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Re:Cskate asbox - 19:35 08 Jul 08 I went and checked out a couple of car audio shops today, generally asking if they had any amplifiers under 2kg and questioning what they did with all the old amps they pulled out. Unfortunately they always give the old amplifiers back to the owner of the car in case they want to put the original kit back when they sell the car.

Thanks for the links to the scrap yards MCS, I think I may try them tomorrow!

The battery is a Yuasa YTX7L-BS and other than the charging info on the side I don't really know much more. It doesn't even say what the capacity is although I think it's 6 or 7Ah. As Elric says, it is a 12V Lead Acid battery though

Anyway, Elric has successfully distracted me, hook line and sinker, I should be concentrating on the input stages so we can connect a microphone and other fun stuff

..... actually I should be sorting video finish for Goodwood!

Re:Cskate asbox - 15:17 09 Jul 08 Scrap yards weren't any help They both used to sell on audio car parts but they had so many parts returned due to user error they don't bother any more Getting increasingly hooked on captionx.com , try it, you may like it! - Twitter Status

Re:Cskate asbox - 20:25 11 Jul 08 Regarding the lead-acid battery.

The battery is 6AHr and requires a charging rate between 0.3 to 0.6 Amps.
If you charge it too quickly the plates inside will sulphate, reducing performance.

I can see if I can make something from the charger I have if you like, but will require the battery to play with. I'll need to discharge it, and then play around to see if I can get the appropriate charge rate out of my old charger.

I can always recharge it anyway using my bench power supply. I use that for charging all sorts of batteries.

Re:Cskate asbox - 16:27 14 Jul 08 MCS, any chance the battery charger will be done tonight?? Failing that could be have the battery back for Eastbourne please, we are going to have to take the asbox there just to show it off

Also, would it be able to charge the old UPS batteries I have (BP7-12 Datasheet) As they may be able to act as backups !?
