Borrowing skates? - 19:26 06 Jul 09 I'm doing the goodwood marathon and I don't have any skates as this is a one off skating event for me. So I was wondering if anyone had a pair of size 10 skates that I could borrow till the event? I don't mind giving a deposit or something to avoid the thought that I may not give them back and I'm happy to pick them up as well. It just seems a waste to buy skates for a one time event.
Cheers,
Andy

Re:Borrowing skates? - 19:53 06 Jul 09 Not quite what you asked but the only suggestions I have:-

The Arena hire, but only for the events indoors there.

Club Blue Room hire but you would soon have paid for a new pair. They do apparently sell ex-rental skates as well.

Ebay may be another option to get a cheap second hand pair.

Re:Borrowing skates? - 20:18 06 Jul 09 I've seen quite a few size 10 skates on ebay recently, didn't notice the price as they wouldn't fit me. In Vauxhall for the roller disco. Impressive setup. Now it's time to get my groove on - Twitter Status

Re:Borrowing skates? - 21:36 06 Jul 09 Yeah if nothing comes up it is likely that i will turn to ebay.
Just wondering when buying skates is it best to get your actual shoe size or go for one size up? I know i should really try some on but sadly that won't be an option.

Re:Borrowing skates? - 22:17 06 Jul 09 No real consistency. It depends on the manufacturer and how your foot fits into that particular skate (Width, height etc).

However if I was buying on line I would go for my shoe size (8 in my case), but I have had mail order skates size 8 which were far too big. Shop bought 7s, 8s and 8½s that all fitted. Plus a pair of 8½s that were really comfortable when new, but after 12 months when my foot had moulded into the liner, they where far too loose.

Re:Borrowing skates? - 22:27 06 Jul 09 I would say so. If you come unstuck you have to hope you can resell them and get what you paid, just loosing the collection or delivery cost. Filling oversize skates with thick socks is generally not recommended. Most skaters will recommend fairly thin socks or non at all.
