I'm really happy with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 purchase, I believe there is a later model now with a few more features.
The camera size may be a bit big if size is important and your after a really compact camera. The internals are straight from their SLR range and I really can't fault them, it's like having an SLR without all the lenses. A colleague also has one for shooting close-ups of insects and I've used mine for fast moving shots which it's good at too.
