Re:Tips for avoiding falling while skating - 12:49 17 Aug 10
I wish I had read this prior to going out on my blades yesterday with friends. I did a superb acrobatic style somersault fall! Dorney Lake. Was going downhill on the bridges. Had a friend holding my hand (she's advanced) and we went over a load of stones. Something knocked me off balance and we were going pretty fast at this point and yep...windmill of death. I had a split second choice - fall into concrete - ouch! fall into the Dorney Lake - too cold! Fall into the grass - yeah it slows you down. It certainly did slow me down and made me flip right over. Quite amusing! No injuries I'm thankful I didn't choose vanity and actually wore pads! They saved me! But what is the trick for going down really steep, quick declines such as bridges? Keep rolling? I might practice on flat terrain for a while. lol! This was my first outing in my skates for 5 years and I almost made it without falling. This was right at the end. The penultimate bridge! Typical!
