Derby Diaries! - 18:26 07 Sep 10 The story so far:
I went to my first practice in April and was hooked! The Royal Windsor Roller Girls http://www.windsorrollergirls.com/ are an amazing group of people and made me feel so welcome. I’ve brought equipment over the past few months that I would never have thought of as something I needed for skating- padded pants, gum shield etc!

Played in my first closed door game in August and my first “proper” game, “Space Jam”, as well. The first game was a success, the second game my team (Team Moon) lost to Team Star by about 4 points in a nail biting overtime jam (I’ve never screamed so much in my life). Played in another closed door game last weekend, which was also successful and I’m very, very happy about how it went!

So far I’m loving this more than I can say, but hate missing CSkate things when they clash! Training is hard work and I have never sweated so much in my life (there is a certain essence of derby girl- anyone who wants to know what this is like is welcome to sniff my pads ). I now have 3 team T-Shirts with my name- CruciVix- and number -31- on them and feel like I belong now!

Watch this space for updates!

Re:Derby Diaries! - 09:14 21 Sep 10 What is the format of a roller derby event?

How long?
How many "battles"?
Intervals - how many - how long?

Re:Derby Diaries! - 12:09 21 Sep 10 Each half is 1/2 an hour, each Jam (battle) last up to 2 mins and as many Jams as possible in 1/2 an hour!

Normally 1/2 hour interval (chance for teams to recover) and even some half time entertainment! Come to one of our games and see!

Re:Derby Diaries! - 12:54 21 Sep 10 I thought your games were all lock-ins to date.

The reason I am asking is because a team has started in Portsmouth and I thought Southsea Roller Hockey Club (we play on quads) might be able to offer some half time entertainment. A half hour interval would allow a 10 minutes each way demo game

Re:Derby Diaries! - 19:46 21 Sep 10 All mine were closed door because its not been our season and we were letting some new leagues get some experience (as well as our less experienced/new players like me)! Our first game of the new season is the 30th of October (don't know if I'm playing in it yet)

Interesting to have some hockey demos! I keep thinking I might have to give that a try at some point too!
