I'm signed up but no idea how to prepare! I did an hour round Hyde park at the weekend... no idea how far that was so need rough times!

Not a simple question at all. Best thing would be to look at the previous results from the Goodwood Roller Marathon website. There are big variations on times.

If you look at last years results, the winner finished in under 1 hour 13 minutes (averaging over 21mph). The last finisher took over 4 hours 22 minutes. If you want a median, then it's around 2 hours 45 minutes. Most good skaters aim for under 2 hours (which gives an average speed of 13mph).

It's really up to you to set your own aims for the event.

Times won't tell you how fast you are going as skaters vary hugely in time but distance will give you a good idea. Try using a service like Gmaps Pedometer to mark out your route and see how far you went. There are lots of ways to lap Hyde Park so wouldn't like to guess which one you did. Ah I hadn't appreciated the results section on the website.
My inner geek got all gooey over the spreadsheet data on the results...

..and good idea about the pedometer... there must be a fancy app for that.

I spent all day looking at the stats waiting for it to reach 300 and it snuck up to 301 when I wasn't looking
