Any idea what the parking is like in that parkt of town?DON'T DO IT! seriously!! There are 2000 bikers all trying to do the same thing and that's just the ones that are trying to leave at 6:30. Then you have new cars turning up and old cars trying to leave that have just dropped off etc etc.

Even if you manage to get a lift in I would suggest being dropped off 2 miles away and adding 2 miles to your skate. If you can. Call in a favour and find a floor to kip on near by. We chose to add 4 miles to the skate (which did make it a nice round 60 miles) and get up at 5:30am instead of getting up at 4:00 and fighting with traffic.

YMMV

Re:London to Brighton - 19 June 2011 - 13:46 13 Jun 11 Part of me agrees that driving there is a crazy idea.... but then so is pushing all the way to Brighton. Don't know anyone in that part of town, plus I want to keep things open in case of bad weather.

Re:London to Brighton - 19 June 2011 - 07:17 21 Jun 11 Did it with 97mm wheels and took 7 hours. Realy good day out and recommended. The surface for me was reasonable. I've skated worse.
Managed to push up all the hills including the biggie though I was covered in salt crystals by the time I got there. Made a few people smile including myself. Recommended.

Re:London to Brighton - 19 June 2011 - 23:01 21 Jun 11 Nice one Keith. Good time I would have thought. Well done.

Did you do it solo, or did you have company on the route?

That's looks an interesting setup with 97mm wheels. Don't think I've ever noticed wheels that big on a board.

Re:London to Brighton - 19 June 2011 - 08:15 22 Jun 11 Solo. For anything over 30 miles on road, I like to be on my own and go at my own pace. If I'm with others, I feel responsible for them which takes away some of the fun. Not many boards will accomodate 97mm wheels without raising the deck to much. I used my Red Sporster instead of my other distance board with 85mm wheels just for the WOW factor, and because it stops me from hitting a wheel with my foot. http://www.rollsrolls.com/html/sportster.html

Saw two people on blades steam ahead of me, and a solo London Skater guy at the foot of Ditchling. There was also a lonboarder who attended Skaiti last year however he was on a bike on Sunday. Also managed to bump into a cyclist who I'd chatted to on the Thames Bridges event earlier this year. As i mentioned, a big red plastic skateboard get you noticed.
