This is like going back to school or applying for a job, you know, doing your CV… Here goes. We are Mick & Jane for those who don’t know us. We’ve been skating now for about 9 years. It all stated when Jane’s son wanted to try this new thing going around. So we got him a pair of Rollerblades and that was it. You see I couldn’t be out done by him so I had to try this as well. I got a cheap pair from a car boot sale with those plastic wheels, I think you know the type, they have no grip or control, can I remember how many times I fell over??, don’t have enough fingers and toes to count. This was getting too much for Jane so she had to join in but on Quads, Bauer Turbos, and she still has them for skating outside. We found out about the Camberley Arena having a session Saturday mornings so this was a good thing to go to. It was run by Malcolm and Dennis, two artistic skaters. Malcolm was okay with the inline thing but Dennis hated them. This morning session was for at first artistic dance but it slowly changed and we started helping, with a team of about six stewards. It stayed much the same for some time. I then qualified as a Grade I IISA Instructor. We then changed the structure to very much what the session is now. We found that the teaching models that the IISA use was not that good so we put our own grading system together and would teach using our method as it work well. We then took a course with the British Coaching Foundation and are qualified to Grade II Coaches in Basic Skating, Speed Skating and some Hockey Training. We tried a hockey session on Saturday afternoons but found that an hour was not enough time for playing and training so this stopped. With this hour in hand we started the adult session and we also do one in Fleet at the Hart Leisure Centre. We can teach both inline and quad as the basics are the same, from beginners up to how ever far you would like to go. A final note, between us we’ve had about 22 pairs of skates, so we know a bit about skates as well.
