DIY corner - 22:05 28 Aug 05 Still being new to the area can anyone point me to a good hardware/DIY store in the area?

After Lemmings Skate ‘Sleeping Bags’ I have decided to give the DIY a go, that and I can't find a skate shop in the UK that sells them. I am looking to make this...

...which should be easy enough. I think the most important bit is finding a bottle the right size. It needs to be big enough but if it's too big you will waste huge ammounts of cleaner.
Does anyone know of any Christmas Card recycling places near Camberley/Reading? I can't find any, should I put them in paper recycling? - Twitter Status

Re:DIY corner - 09:50 29 Aug 05 You're hardly new Dogsbody!
still, i think the bolt should be the first priority, measure the length required to carry the bearings and spacers, then find a bottle, you might find that the small evian water bottles might suffice, as they are easy to replace if you damage it, or does it require a good seal?
what are you using to clean the bearings with that will determine the material required for the bottle.

As for places to purchase.
the bolt can be bought from B&Q in Farnborough, possibly Homebase, but less likely, there is a Specialist in Farnham AJM of Camberley, who will certainly be able to get the right length and thickness of thread for you, the bottles, well any cycle shop, Halfords, Woolies, Millets, to name a few!
even Focus Do it all in Frimley road may have some parts for you. there very local to you, you could skate there mate!!

Re:DIY corner - 12:00 29 Aug 05 I don't know whether the bottle size will matter too much. As long as the mechanical action (ie shaking the bottle) is sufficient, the volume of liquid shouldn't need to be higher. Have you thought about something like a plastic soup/liquid cannister? You know, the kind you find near the lunchboxes and Tupperware-type things at Sainsbury's. They have a flat lid and most of them should be long enough for all your bearings. Addis make a screw-top one that has a watertight seal. All you'd need to do then is make sure your washers were nice and snug around the bolt at the top. A bit of plumber's tape and Bob's your uncle! Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort

Yes, but we skate on bumpy frozen ponds in minus 35 degrees Celsius weather.
