Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 16:44 13 Sep 05 OK, I am confused about who is going, who is staying over and how we are getting there. I figure you all know if your going or not and Drakey knows who is staying over so this thread is just about transport!!!

The initial idea is to take the train up there however the cheapest I can get tickets for 8 people traveling Farnborough -> Kings Cross and home again the next day is £24.40 each!! That's a lot of money and a lot of drinks!

I have been re-thinking about driving! OK, it means that some of us will have to be a bit more sensible but then we still have to be sober when getting back to Farnborough and we can always spend Saturday morning skating around London before coming home

Drakey, did you say that the hotel has parking at £25 for the night? With 5 people in a car that is £5 each There is petrol cost as well but we should miss the congestion charge and I guess we can all go straight from work? I figure those of us driving up all stick in £10, we pay for all the parking, those that need petrol and spend the rest on the first round at the club

What do people think?? So who is driving up?? I guess that makes it the same people that are staying over?? Who's staying over!!??
Woot! Deposit paid for a new office with @orcare. There will be a cake Very excited! :-D http://t.co/UDSoOpjU - Twitter Status

Re:Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 17:01 13 Sep 05 Sounds like a good plan Anything that means more money for VODKA! gets my Vote

And skating round London on the Saturday Morning if needs be is hardly a chore

I would offer to drive but my car is not designed for Luggage! Sorry.

O and I'm staying over BTW

Gets my Vote

Re:Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 17:58 13 Sep 05 I'm driving up and staying at Sarah's, so if people need a lift and can get to Reading, you're welcome to come in with me. I was gonna possibly come to the flat to meet up with you guys anyway if that's OK with you... ! Skate Monkey !

Nah! there room for at least a few more!
if we go by car then it splits the group up, and who wants to drive to Kings X?
not sure how many parking spaces can be got either, btw as i've been caught out myself, the congestion charge applies to 6:30, and it's £8 upto 10pm then its £80!!
i've parked at Russell sq NCP for 7hrs and it was £27 on a Saturday, be warned, driving may not be the cheaper or easier option.

Hear what you're saying but, we're gonna be in the congestion charge after 6.30, so that's one less thing to worry about. (Phew that's the Vodka paid for!) Even the car park would be split between 3 or more people so still cheaper in my view.

Coupla three ideas, as I'm an advocate of the driving (less hassle, more flexible, no worrying about getting to and from farnborough, more luggage and no carrying especially for Merry & Me !! ) )

1.We could go in convoy i.e. 2 cars from Camberley with half the folk in one car and half in the other - so not really splitting up the group too much.

2. Two cars travel up, one from Camberley for all the Camberley based folk, and one from Say Reading (kismet just read Lemming's post!!)

3. Two cars from Camberley and one from Reading.

What do folk think?

Drakey can you find out if we can pre-book 2 or 3 car-park spots?

Re:Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 19:18 13 Sep 05 I'm up for driving but have a small car so don't know how practical it'll be for me to take passengers. I can get to Camberley but Reading is just as easy for me, straight off the M4. Yes, the group'll be split, but we've got all night to play together and you can always play musical cars the following day and go home in different groups for a laugh.

I'm easy, just broke. Whatever is decided I'll go along with.

Drakey whats the name of our Hotel? I only ask as I have tried to look up parking in Kings Cross but most of it is attached to a Hotel i.e you can park here for £?? a day IF you are staying in this hotel?! and I have no idea where we are staying

Re:Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 20:20 13 Sep 05 well, i'll see what parking they've got campers!
my local BP garage is now out of fuel, so i might be skating there instead!
Ok if you all want to go up as two groups i guess that makes sense,

So Timo, whats practical for you? Camberley or Reading?
Same for you Frannybee, can you survive the mental torture of being with Timo and lemming?

Can lemming find London?

if we go by car what time do you want to leave Camberley?
more importantly which mad maniac is driving!??

Re:Travel for RD on 16th Sep 05 - 20:44 13 Sep 05 Ha! Yeah, as long as there's no Tetris involved, we'll get along just fine.

I know *nothing* of driving in London - I can just about get to Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. I'm happy to drive or to navigate, as long as I have good maps at my disposal.
