LeMans 24 Hour - 23:49 05 Jan 05okay thought i'd get this rolling, Dogsbody mentioned Le Mans tonight, i think we have a team of 4 already;
Dogsbody Dan Drakey Padrino
we could do with 8 in total with extras to act as pit crew, food providers etc..
first of all are there any more who wish to enter, and can we come up with a suitable name?
we could do with T shirts for the team in the subtle colours of the site, and arrange suitable training prior to the event (currently expected early July).
we could use this as away to get publicity for the Arena sessions and this site, via local papers closer to the event, you know, cheesy photo of team prior to despatch to France.
throw me some thoughts and we can see what we can all agree on

Re: LeMans 24 Hour - 00:05 06 Jan 05Damn Drakey, I was half way through writing a post about this Mind if i change the subject line?
Numbers are definately the first thing, 8 people minimum, ideally 10 I would have thought.
We will also really need one person minimum as pit crew, I know this sounds really silly but someone needs to be in charge of waking the right people up at the right times and also keeping an eye on kit etc.
It may also be worth saying that I'm not sure about people under 18 years of age!? Purely from a legal / safety point of view should something happen in another country unless of course the parent / gardian comes along as well
To give you an idea of times / dates the La Mans currently has a tempory date for two days somewhere in the first week of July although that is yet to be confirmed. We will have to submit that want to enter a team (and our team name) in March sometime although we won't have to say who the people are in our team until May. We still need to sort out people ASAP!

I'm fine with that, yes at least 8, 10 gives us more rest time, and pit crew is a must, plenty of cans of deep heat required! and freeze sprays (and Stella, and Pimms , it will be summer!)
might be worth investigating using the Eelmoor Test Track for timed circuits too.
WANTED! tents, stoves, walkie talkies, 12seater mini bus! map of France, Euros, phrase book, get out of jail card!

The start of the race emulates the start of the 24 car race in that everyone lines up on one side of the track with their skates on the other and on the startting pistol you have to dash to do your laces up.
If anyone wants a idea of what it will be like I have found a good video (taken from German Eurosport!) that can be found HERE.
The website for the event can be found at http://www.24rollers.com/ however it is in french and hasn't been updated for 2005 yet. The English translation of the Rules and Regs however can be found HERE including beauties as "Entrants without a valid FFRS license, must provide a medical certificate that is no more than 3 months old on race day and that certifies their ability to participate in the sport of roller-skating" and " The 24 Heures Rollers race will take place on the 4.5 kilometer BUGATTI circuit of the 24 Heures du Mans race course. The course is flat except for one 3.5% grade uphill section of 600 meters followed by a 2% grade downhill section of 1 kilometer that includes two sweeping curves."
There are a lot more things to discuss such as transport and strategy!!
I'm quite happy to organise all of this (if that's ok with everyone) but if we haven't got 10+ people then this is a non-starter!
P.S. Drakey, you forgot spare wheels and bearings

http://www.24rollers.com/ has now announced exact dates are the 2nd & 3rd July, write it in your diaries and get time off work (Monday and Friday would be advisable at the least). Registration (and paying the 300 Euro entrance fee) opens at the beginning of March so I would like to know if we have enough people to sign up (even if we don't have exact names yet)!?
Oli & Linton, Jane suggested that you might be up for this?? Does anyone know of any Christmas Card recycling places near Camberley/Reading? I can't find any, should I put them in paper recycling? - Twitter Status
