Re:Cheeeeeeeeeeeap Skates, any good? - 09:19 22 Sep 05I know you're s'sposed to get the best you can afford but if they're all I can afford and they're crap, I'll just give them a miss. Yeah, they look chunky to me too but then again, look at my quads! Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort

Re:Cheeeeeeeeeeeap Skates, any good? - 10:17 22 Sep 05Hi Frannbee, the skates aren't too bad, but they are aggressives, so they'll be heavy, also the short frame and small wheels will make covering any distances quite exhausting, great if you want to grind and do half pipes etc!
i orginally learnt in aggro skates (still got them) and they made many skills easy to learn as you are closer to the ground, and there are no edges to the wheels, but it does mean you won't have a heal brake.
buy'em if you don't intend street skating, but otherwise look out for recreational skates.

Re:Cheeeeeeeeeeeap Skates, any good? - 10:25 22 Sep 05No Frannybee, they are agressive boots for doing jumps and tricks, they have much smaller wheels and you can see the grind plate in the middle.
If you really want some cheap recreational skates (which is what I think your after) then the cheapest I know is http://Stateside Skates however they don't sell to Joe public only too companies (may be an option).
Proline (in cardiff too) also have some perfectly good rec. skates in their sale..... actually Snow & Rock look like they have some cheep ish ones too, I guess it's the end of the summer!
Eaither way I guess your looking for a "recreational" or "fitness" skate. (Only) six people from Camberley on the BNP list, anyone want their addresses :-p - Twitter Status

Re:Cheeeeeeeeeeeap Skates, any good? - 11:02 22 Sep 05have a butchers on ebay - the only problem is, you can't try them on first and skate sizes can be a bit odd! that goes for buying any skates online of course
Aggressives are supposed to be OK for learning, but you'll quickly not want to be using them. Also, you'll need to get the correct fit - it's vital.
I agree with the guys - get down to proline and see what they've got. Get a boot which is comfortable, with a heel brake and you'll be fine for starting out.! Skate Monkey !

Re:Cheeeeeeeeeeeap Skates, any good? - 13:12 22 Sep 05Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on you lot to steer me away from dodgy skate stuff. Will have a look around and save up a bit longer for a decent pair. While I love the thought of dicking around on the skate ramp 1/2 a mile from my house, I know I need to be able to skate forwards and backwards safely first!
I'd love to be able to do more street skating and I think inlines are the way to do it. I'm fine on quads on the prom at Mumbles but take me off that relatively smooth surface and I just can't do it. Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort
