Re:stiff! - 14:55 26 Sep 05 There is a way of ressurrecting your stuck bearings without removing them from the frame BUT they'll never be quiet again and you'll have to keep doing the following on them regularly to keep them going...

Pop to Halfords and get a can of GT85, PTFE lubricant. Using the supplied plastic tube you can direct the spray of the stuff inside the frame and directly onto the bearing without removing them. Do both sides of the stuck wheel, give it about a minute and then try and rotate. If it doesn't then repeat and possibly use a bit of brute force to get the wheel moving. The lube will work its way into the bearings and displace the muck and allow them to move again. Keep applying and spinning the wheel and eventually it will start to spin nicely

GT85 also displaces any other lubricant in the bearing too hence the "silent whisper" you get with Salomon bearings becomes a "scratchy grind" after the application of this stuff BUT it's quicker than a full clean and can bring bearings back to life. Because the only lube in the bearings is this stuff it will attract dirt (not as bad as WD40, though!) and you'll need to re-do this once every couple of months depending on skate usage.

Re:stiff! - 03:01 27 Sep 05 Can somone write this up as an FAQ please!

The other option with a threaded hex is to use a dremmel to cut a slit in the bolt, you can then use a flat screwdriver to get it out although you sometimes cut into the frame a little it is another option

Re:stiff! - 12:32 27 Sep 05 Grrrrrrr

Covent Garden Snow & Rock are not stocking skate stuff anymore and apparantly they don't have a workshop there now either. I went to Evans the big cycle shop and they took it into their workshop but couldn't shift it!!

I'll have to take it to S&R in Kensington but i don't have time today - I'm getting a bit worried about it now I might have to buy new skates

Re:stiff! - 15:10 27 Sep 05 ... trouble is, my xmax 3's are really really comfortable now - it took a while, they made my feet hurt for the first month but now I could keep them on all day quite happily, so I don't really want to change them

If I have to drill the wheel out or something, I might just get new frames.

Re:stiff! - 17:33 04 Oct 05 Surely with a drill and a smallish bit we'll be able to get it out. Trust me...

Don't give up yet - you haven't tried the student approach. What I've just read about. 'Cos I'm not a student...
