We are surrounded by army land, a lot of it is dusty roads but every
now and then you get nice bits. Like a lot of the local army
areas it is
public access when they are not using it however I have found that they
can use Ash Ranges more than other areas and is the only area I have
found where it is sometimes used in the evenings too.
The
track is
not a loop but a long straight road (not open to cars) that links all
the ranges together. I estimate that the length is about 1.5km
from end to end. The surface is tarmacked but has been tarmacked
at different times so has different surfaces. There can be a
little gravel at the road junctions but nothing really to worry
about. It also has a few ups and downs although none are steep it
is good practice.
There is a dirt car park by the entrance [MAP] that you can use and right over the road is The Swan pub which is a very nice place to go for a drink or food afterwards.
