An ideal place to train or practice for races. For further details check out there website at www.dorneylake.com, directions are included.

Had a great afternoon skating round the rowing lake.  Jon and Myself went from Reading which is an easy drive down the M4, the site is well laid out, with plenty of parking.  We decided to ask before setting off on our skates, and they were fine at reception, though they were concerned about us skateboarding! we just looked at each other, surely we don't look that young! (I wish!).

What was it like? well the surface is as smooth as can be, I can't remember a better surface! Plus you have the benefit of metre markers along the route, so sprint interval training is easy to stage.  The turn at the end of the lake was a bit rough, but we got back onto the smooth stuff quite quickly!!

Distance, well it's 5km round the lake, we did a warm up lap, and then a lap of each drill Hans gave us, so about 20Km for me, Jon shot off while my lungs recovered to make it 25km. There is an outer path and a dead straight inner path used by coaches (Trainers not buses fool!) this means you can do sprints next to the lake and time it from the distance markers. The only thing we were advised was not to use this path while coaching was in progress as they go quite fast, they obviously haven't seen skaters at speed!!

Overall a great complex, well it is part of Eton School, and the staff are friendly too! I can see a lot of pre Le Mans training going on here!
