Eastbourne Extreme is a whole weekend of skating and water sport events in, yes you have guessed it!, Eastbourne :-) An unusual place most people say, given its reputation for the 'older' generation but the surfaces are great for skating and the prom is just the best to whizz along day or night ;-)
2005 was the first year that Eastbourne had gone 'extreme'. Previous years had just been about skating however this year was much more :-)
Starting on Saturday at about 10am, 3 outdoor arenas are used for various skating actvities and competitions throughout the weekend including:
- Slalom competitions
- High jump
- Basketball (yes on Skates!)
- Limbo
One arena was set aside with free skate hire (with a deposit) and instructors for anyone wishing to 'give skating a go' and the final arena was a timed assault course, yes once again to be done on skates!!
Elsewhere in Eastbourne there is plenty of other activities to watch including wind surfing, Kite surfing (yes we did wonder how it would work with skates ), Music stage, Skate boarding and market area.....so trust us you do not have time to be bored!
Saturday evening and the Fun doesn't stop! After a Family Street Skate around Eastbourne at approximately 6pm, there's a street skate (very similar to London skate) around Eastbourne for the speed freaks.
Finally (if that isn't enough!) Saturday night is the Roller Disco in The Redoubt Fortress - Easily accessable after a fast (ok maybe a bit drunken!) skate along the prom. This went on till around 12.00.
Sunday is recovery day! The 3 Arenas are open again with various skating activities continuing throughout the day.
Eastbourne is Fab! There are plenty of places to eat and plenty of Hotel accomodation in the area - We have invaded the Gladwyn Hotel for two years now which we highly recommend
In 2005 Camberley Skaters spent approximately 16 hours on Saturday in their skates and as you can tell from the forums and gallery we had a totally WICKED time! Most of us have already book the weekend off for next year ;-)
More details of the event are at http://www.eastbourneextreme.co.uk/ UPDATE - Eastbourne Extreme Dates have been confirmed for 2006 - 22nd and 23rd July 2006 SEE YOU THERE!
